About Me

Hi! I’m Brianne “Bri” Gilbert from New Orleans, Louisiana. I’ve been on staff with Cru since May 2016. For five years, I served in Baton Rouge at Louisiana State University (LSU),my alma mater, and other campuses throughout Louisiana. Currently, I’m based in Houston, Texas, where I virtually give leadership to student movements across the country helping students launch and lead spiritual movements on their campuses and visiting them throughout the year. In this role, I get to disciple students who long to grow in their faith and community. I have the incredible privilege of seeing students encounter Jesus, mature spiritually, and begin transforming their campuses and future careers for His kingdom.

The Student Reality

Today, there is a fierce battle for the hearts and minds of college students. Many Black college students are first-generation, often disconnected from the local church, heavily influenced by cultural pressures, uncertain about their ethnic identity, and searching for a faith that connects to their real stories. Recent studies show that only 42% of Black students who enter college graduate. Of the 3 million Black college students in the U.S., just over 7,000 are involved in any campus or church ministry, that’s only 0.233%. 

This means millions of students are navigating college and life without knowing the hope of Jesus.

My Reality

For many missionaries of color, raising support presents unique challenges. Many of us don’t have large networks of people who are familiar with or able to give to full-time ministry. As a result, ethnic minority missionaries often take longer to raise sufficient support or may even never make it to the mission field. 

But I believe God is writing a new story; one where representation, faith, and provision all reflect His heart for every nation and people group.

The Solution

I’m inviting you to join me as a financial partner in this mission to reach Black college students across the nation. My desire is to be for students what I needed when I was in college: someone who listens, walks with them, and shows that faith in Jesus transforms every part of life. Even though times and trends change, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Students are searching for truth and together, we can help them find it. By partnering with me, you’re not only helping reach students for Christ, but you’re also becoming part of God’s provision and representation for those who need to see that He provides and calls people who look like them.

I want to be a trailblazer, showing students of color that God can and does provide everything we need to carry out His mission.
