Almost every day in the news, we are reminded of the critical role our military plays in the defense of our freedoms. Many of those who have served and are serving today are our sons and daughters, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, or friends.
On Memorial Day, we remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. We honor those who have served in our active forces, in our reserves, and in our National Guard and who lost their lives in the process. In the more than 238 years since our founding, nearly one and one half million patriots have died defending our freedoms.
