Dear Family and Friends,
It’s happening again! This summer, I will be heading back to Europe but this time it is Hungary. Just thinking about this opportunity gives me the chills and ...overwhelms me with excitement and joy. Because of your important role in my life, I’d like to share with you about a great opportunity that I believe God is once again leading me to – an opportunity to serve people in Hungary on a short-term mission trip. That’s why I’m writing…I’d love for you to be a financial and prayer partner in this mission with me.
The Spiritual Need in Hungary
In 1990, religious liberty was restored in Hungary, ending more than 40 years of intimidation, discrimination, and infiltration by Communist leaders. Yet, the spiritual atmosphere here can best be described as cold, grey, and inactive. In fact, current statistics reveal that less than 2 percent of Hungary’s population has had a real encounter with the gospel. This is surprising considering Hungary’s long religious history. Hungary experienced a Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. By 1600 A.D., nearly 90 percent of the country was professing Protestant. Many reverted to Roman Catholicism in the Counter Reformation. Today, 52 percent are Roman Catholic in name; about 20% continue as members of the Reformed Church. Baptists comprise only about 11,000 of the total population, equal to the number of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Hungary is a spiritually needy country, and traditional Catholic Christianity offers many challenges to missionaries. Historically there have been times of revival and a focus on God, but most Hungarians consider church and religion irrelevant.
In partnership with CRU, we will be holding a sport camp for high school and college students in Pecs, Hungary. We will have the opportunity to assist with the planning and execution of the camp and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, disciple the students, and build relationships with Cru missionaries. Knowing that I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior through a mission trip, it is very dear to my heart to be able to provide the same opportunity for others to accept Christ through mission/discipleship trips.
Above all, we are devoted to serving the local people and developing relationships with them! This was Christ’s model for evangelism and we are excited to be a part of the Great Commission in Hungary.
I am very excited to be a part of this team and this is how you can be a part of the team also! As I prepare for the trip, I need your prayers for safety and God to work in and through me, and I want to humbly ask you to consider supporting me financially. The cost of the trip is $3000.00. Any amount would be great, but if you would be willing to contribute $20, $50, $100 or more, it would really help me to reach my goal!
