My name is Taylor Williamson and I am on Part Time Field Staff with Athletes in Action at the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities campus.
I was fortunate to play hockey at the University of Minnesota all 4 years of college and be surrounded by teammates and coaches who introduced me to the concept of discipleship and what it looks like to personally have a relationship with God.
In the fall of my junior year, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior after undergoing emergency brain surgery and being diagnosed with an incurable neuromuscular disorder, called Myasthenia Gravis. It was through those trials and suffering that I was able to fully surrender to God and completely lean on Him for strength, security, and hope. Despite my unusual health journey, I clung tightly to God's word, obediently trusted the Lord, and overtime was gifted the ability to play hockey again and use the platform God had given me to reach people with the Gospel through my sport, so that every person can know someone who knows Jesus. Athletes in Action was instrumental in my growth as a Christian and the staff continually encouraged me to dig deeper into my relationship with God.
I first felt God leading me to work in ministry in the fall of my senior year during a gathering that AIA was hosting. My experience over the past 2 years was just another part of God's marvelous plan that He created for me to share with others and encourage them to learn more about our Savior, Jesus Christ. I believe the Lord placed me with AIA at the University of Minnesota, to be a helping hand in the work He has already begun with almost every sports team on campus, and for me to continue to strengthen the relationships I have already established with my teammates and fellow student-athletes. God has blessed me with a special opportunity to access and influence these athletes' lives, and I am so humbled and honored to witness the miracles He has in store on the Minnesota campus.
As an AIA staff member, I have the responsibility to develop a team of prayer and financial partners who provide the necessary finances for my outreach. This includes my salary and ministry expenses. In order to report to my assignment on the campus as soon as possible, I will need to be fully funded. So, I’m asking friends and family to seek the Lord in prayer and ask if he is calling them to support me monthly or special gifts. Your partnership in prayer and in finances can make a difference in reaching people for Christ.
