“I want to see a million people come to praise God and worship together.” That’s the passion of a new oral Bible story team member to take the gospel to the unreached in Africa.
Many people groups in Africa live in oral cultures, meaning that they rely on the spoken, rather than written, word for communication. Some oral learners cannot read, but others simply best learn through spoken narrative. Many have little to no Christian resources in their own language; and, of the more than 7,000 languages in the world, only 720 languages have a full Bible translation.
The Lord has opened opportunities in the African countries of Benin, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Tanzania and Togo to train local people to become oral Bible trainers to reach the unreached with the gospel through oral Bible stories. These oral Bible trainers will develop a series of oral Bible stories from Creation to the Return of Christ in their own language in just four weeks! Additionally, they will be trained to use these stories for evangelism, discipleship and church planting.
Not only will these trainers develop oral Bible stories in their language, but they will also travel to other African countries to develop more Bible stories for more unreached people groups! Working in partnership with Cru’s Global Church Movements, local ministry leaders will use these Bible stories to plant churches and offer more people the chance to hear God’s Word for the first time.
