We’re gearing up for our 36th annual Box of Love® Outreach ... organizing volunteers in hundreds of partner ministries — inner-city churches, missions, and Christian groups — to share holiday meals with families in need in urban communities across the nation.
Every Box of Love is a complete Thanksgiving meal, with all the trimmings — more than enough to feed a family of six.
Plus, most importantly, the Box of Love always includes a gospel presentation — Scripture materials for both children and adults and information about knowing God personally.
Pastor Ruben, of New Harvest Church, is using Boxes of Love® to minister to people living in a homeless encampment near his church. The boxes are a vital resource for Pastor Ruben, who has used them to meet needs, build relationships and grow a burgeoning outreach ministry to the homeless in his community.
It’s how Pastor Ruben met George.
“We were able to read the Bible with a few people — we prayed for some — and led a few to the Lord,” Pastor Ruben said.
George confessed his faith in Jesus that day ... along with one more confession: he was addicted to drugs and needed help.
Pastor Ruben told George about the church’s rehab home. “If you really want to get clean, get off the streets, and come into our home, why don’t you come to church tomorrow morning?”
Pastor Ruben was pleasantly surprised when George showed up for Sunday services the next day! “Right there, right after service, he got into the home,” Pastor Ruben said.
Today, George is receiving help for his substance abuse, as well as discipleship training. He’s focusing on his spiritual growth, while relying on the Lord to help him stay sober — and gives back to his new church family by working on the church grounds.
