Send Teams to Reach the Unreached with “JESUS”

#2571179

Like the spreading dawn, God’s kingdom of love is expanding to all the earth. His miracles are overcoming the spiritual darkness. This is how our great God and Savior is working through you, by sending hundreds of film teams into the harvest. This is the reason I invite you to join with them, to take the gospel to people who have never heard.

You can support one day of ministry for one of these teams through a gift of $42. In that single day, they can travel to an unreached village and show the “JESUS” film to hundreds. Your gift can also enable a team to spend a day discipling new believers. They will teach them the Word, about the work of the Holy Spirit, how to overcome the darkness and grow in their new faith.

More than 3 billion people in the world are considered unengaged for the gospel. But they can be reached, many through the work of film teams who use “JESUS” in person and virtually online. Teams and volunteers are ready to go to where they live, into fields “ripe for harvest,” with “JESUS” in their heart language.

People are open, searching, ready—if someone will go and tell them. God can work many more miracles, to roll back the darkness. He longs to call unreached people to the cross, to forgive their sins and give them life eternal. Thank you so much for however you can help. Here are ways your gift can send teams into the harvest:

  • $42 will support one day of a film team’s ministry.
  • $84 will support their work for two days.
  • $294 will support their work for a week.
  • $1,250 will support their work for one month.
  • $15,000 will support their work for an entire year, including church planting.
  • $3,580: You can also accelerate and multiply the work of a film team by providing them with portable showing equipment, a Church-Planting Backpack Kit.

The reports I share are evidence of the power of prayer, the work of the Holy Spirit, many ministry organizations who use “JESUS” … and you. I love telling you what our God has done through your partnership. Thank you!

🕆 This first report comes from the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico. It is home to 800,000 Maya people, descendants of the ancient Mayan Empire. You may have seen the documentaries about their history—pyramid-like temples in the jungles, priests who sacrificed humans to their gods. The spiritual darkness of those centuries lingers on.

Today, most Maya live in isolated villages scattered over the vast, interior jungles of the Yucatán plain. No one knows how many villages there are, possibly in the thousands. A great many have no electricity, are hard to reach and have never heard the gospel.

The Message for Mayans is a ministry partner working to reach all the Maya people. They are one of those 1,800 ministry partners I speak of often. And thankfully, because of people like you, their film teams use “JESUS” (available in the Mayan language). The results they are seeing are miraculous.

Just a few months ago, a group of Jesus Film Project staff and friends traveled to the Yucatán and witnessed film showings in three remote villages. I will let them tell you what they experienced*:

“When we arrived at the village, I was struck by how dark and isolated their world was. In one village square, I saw a wall attached to some kind of tower. A pastor who was with us said it listed, in Mayan, many of the curses and addictions that dominated their village: sexual sins, gambling, alcoholism, demonic possession. I felt the darkness, an unseen oppression that filled the air.”

“At one of the villages, a woman told us, ‘We need God.’ She happened to be the mayor. That’s why we were there! When we showed ‘JESUS,’ I was amazed. Everyone watched intently. They were especially captivated that the film was in Mayan. They likely had never heard the good news until this day. The film spoke the gospel to their hearts. At the end, more than 90 percent of the people indicated decisions for Christ!

“But the last village showing was the most memorable. We felt the spiritual oppression. The pastor with The Message for Mayans warned me: ‘When “JESUS” comes to the crucifixion and explains the gospel, expect distractions, dogs fighting, babies crying and more.’ During the film, I saw about five dogs around the showing site. They were quietly sleeping all during the film. Then when Jesus was taken to be crucified, they all awoke. They came together as a pack and became clearly agitated, barking and growling. Another group of dogs began fighting. Unseen forces didn’t want the people to watch.

“Somehow the people ignored the chaos. Their minds and hearts were not distracted, but  transfixed on Jesus, His character and the story. But we had another concern. All around us, in every direction there was severe weather, heavy rain, flashes of lightning. It was crazy! The wind was blowing. Yet, mysteriously, we hardly heard the thunder. As ‘JESUS’ played, members of our group prayed fervently, ‘Lord, keep the rain away so these people can hear the gospel.’

“Prayer against the storms was also going up 30 minutes away, at the hotel where part of our group had stayed behind. Seeing the rain and frequent lightning, they were convinced we were being inundated, rained out. But somehow the rain stayed away from the showing site. When the pastor gave the invitation, about 90 percent of the people indicated decisions for Christ and were delivered. We were all rejoicing.

“As we drove back, we witnessed just how marvelously God had answered. Not a mile away there was water everywhere. We drove through flooded roads, at one point a foot deep. It appeared it had rained everywhere, except at the showing site, where not a single drop had fallen. Our God answered. It was a miracle!”

How great is our God who answers prayer. But the greater miracle is salvation. According to The Message for Mayans, nearly every showing of “JESUS” results in the majority of people indicating decisions for Christ and the formation of a new church. The Yucatán is a vast mission field “ripe for harvest.”

🕆 I’d like to take you now to a deeply troubled nation in Asia. Like the Maya, these people have been dominated and controlled by a pervasive spiritual darkness. Film teams with another ministry partner are seeing many, many miracles. They wrote:

“We showed the ‘JESUS’ film in one of the worst human trafficking areas, a place where fear and despair ruled. As the film played, the story of Jesus’ love and sacrifice touched hearts in ways we had never seen before. Tears streamed down faces as people, many trapped in unimaginable darkness, saw hope for the first time. When the film ended, we invited them to respond—and they did. Men, women, and even children stepped forward, some falling to their knees, others lifting their hands. Many gave their lives to Jesus that night.

“One woman, who had been [sexually] trafficked for years, wept as she said, ‘I never knew there was a love like this. I thought my life was over, but now I have hope. I belong to Jesus now.’ The light of Christ broke through the deepest darkness, and we believe this is just the beginning. Please pray for these new believers as they walk a new path of freedom and faith.”

🕆 And this next account came from a film team working in a West African nation, also supported and sent by your partnership: “In the heart of a community deeply rooted in the area’s traditional religion, we faced an imposing challenge. The villagers had made it clear—they were not open to the gospel.

“Undeterred, our team pressed on, determined to bring the light of Christ to this beautiful remote area. On our first night, as the ‘JESUS’ film began to play, a man from the community emerged with a fierce determination to stop us.

“He vehemently insisted that no one should accept Christ and forcefully expelled our team from the village. It was a disheartening setback, but we knew our mission was far from over. We resorted to prayer and fasting, seeking God’s intervention. We believed that God’s love and power could break through even the toughest of barriers.

“With renewed strength and hope, we returned for a second attempt. This time, as the film began, a sense of peace enveloped the gathering. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation. When the film concluded, something miraculous happened. Every single person present—31 in total—stood up, their hearts moved by the story of Jesus. They all made the decision to receive Christ. Hallelujah!”

Teams and volunteers are ready to go to where they live, into fields ripe for harvest, with “JESUS” in their heart language. More than $1.7 million is needed for the next three months to support hundreds of film teams, many who are waiting to be sent. May I ask you to  consider how He might lead and enable you to have a part in this global work of evangelism and church planting?
