Meeting Needs to Relieve Suffering and Reveal Hope
“We haven’t been exposed to this kind of emergency in 102 years,” the governor of Puerto Rico said. She then went on to announce the island is in an official state of emergency.
A magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit Puerto Rico on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. The previous day a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck. Residents suffered further damage to their homes, businesses, and property as they experienced at least 51 aftershocks, the largest at magnitude 5.9 occurring Saturday morning, January 11.
More than 2,000 people are in shelters, 1 million are without power, hundreds of thousands are without water, and much of the infrastructure has been severely damaged. Many people fear injury from their damaged homes and are sleeping outdoors. We know you care about the people in Puerto Rico and ask that you pray for them as they begin to rebuild their lives.
Because of help from people like you, UntoTM supplied hurricane victims in Puerto Rico with tarps and other supplies when Hurricane Maria struck in September 2017. Subsequently, Unto shipped additional supplies as advance preparation for another emergency. These supplies are being used now but are quickly running out. Unto is responding by replenishing supplies that will bring help to those affected by this disaster.
You can help provide an entire shipping container of critically needed supplies that will assist victims of natural disaster, supplying immediate aid for the displaced and then helping them rebuild their lives. The container includes essentials like:
- Tarps for emergency shelter
- Meals for hungry families
- Water filters that supply safe, clean water when water sources are compromised
The amount needed to resource, ship, and distribute these life-saving necessities is $27,000.
