Transformation is happening in many areas of Ethiopia!
A few years ago, the first Jesus Film team that had ventured into one area had been beaten and driven way. This area wanted nothing to do with this person named Jesus.
Then a young evangelist attended church planting training, Multiplying Churches and Communities (MC 2 ). He learned about a relationship-building strategy called prayer-care- share. This was his target area where he would trust God to plant a church.
He learned that the daughter of the house owner was a very sick young girl named Medhannit. Her mother was sick also. He asked if he could pray for them. God’s compassion flowed into that house and Medhannit and her mother were healed. Medhannit, or መድኀኒት, means medicine or salvation in the Amharic language. This young girl became God’s vehicle of salvation in this area. This became a household of peace. Others came to see.Jesus was now welcome in the area.
A church was born as many followed Jesus. Like John 4, when the woman who met Jesus at the well became a woman of peace, many villagers came to see for themselves. Today, 30 people worship in the home church called Mekana Yesus which started in September 2014 because a young church planter learned how to live out a relational strategy based on praying and caring and allowing the compassionate Jesus to show up with power. Lives are being changed. Churches are being planted. Leaders are being developed.
The church in Ethiopia has a goal of planting 80,000 new churches by the year 2020.
Our local staff are partnering with many denominations through training and resourcing and strategic planning. Hundreds are being trained as church planters in 30 regional training locations. New churches are multiplying themselves into the second and third generation within 2 years!
