Soapy, a full-blooded Apache Indian, and his wife Suzanne have served with CRU since 1971. They have ministered on college campuses, in the Music Ministry (both play various instruments and sing), and as International Representatives (two years in Belgium with the touring music group The Forerunners, and six years establishing campus ministries in Spain). Since 1982, they have directed ministries out of San Antonio, TX, America's seventh largest city. Soapy speaks Spanish fluently and has traveled and ministered in many countries - most recently, Panama, Honduras, China, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, India, etc. - to help evangelize and make disciples in those nations.
The couple has three adult children: Scott (born in Spain, 1976), a Stanford University Symbolic Systems grad and entrepreneur; Shawn (born in Spain, 1979), a computer science Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio and now a professional programmer, and Stacy (born in Texas, 1982), a Business Management graduate of The King's College in New York City. After graduation, Stacy worked for six years in the Hollywood movie industry, but moved back to San Antonio in 2011 to assist with the ministry. She and her husband Troy have a son William and a daughter Ellie.
Currently, Soapy and Suzanne direct two ministries in San Antonio: 1) the Cru Military Gateways Ministry at Lackland AFB, sharing the Gospel and teaching life-changing truths to around 20,000 AF basic trainees every year, thousands of whom indicate the decision to trust Christ as Savior and Lord, and 2) The Bible Live radio program on KSLR (AM-630) in San Antonio, a Salem Radio Network station. Soapy has recorded the entire Bible (NLT by Tyndale Publishers), and people around the world can join him in reading through the scriptures every year by his podcast found at BibleLive.com. Then, every Sunday evening at 9:00, listeners tune in to hear sound, life-changing Bible teaching, also live-streamed and podcast at AM630THEWORD.COM. Faithful listeners across 39 counties of South Texas and worldwide cover the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, each year. Many call in for explanation or questions. Others have received Christ over the airwaves. God's Word is POWERFUL. "Faith comes from hearing, and hearing from the WORD OF GOD"
Soapy also hosts The Story Teller, a radio program heard on over 450 stations which targets Native peoples across the U.S. and Canada with stories of First Nations men and women who are following Jesus Christ "without reservation". For more information, go to www.withoutreservation.com
Soapy and Suzanne trust God for both their personal and ministry support. Here's a personal word from the Apache Indian who would read the Bible to America and the world:
"I was what used to be called an illegitimate baby, abandoned at birth on the streets of Albuquerque, NM. A 50-year-old fortune teller found me and took me took me home, where she lived alone at the time, separated from her third of five husbands. She acquired a birth certificate for me, then passed me around to about 16 families before I was six years old. At six years of age Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, a home for homeless and/or delinquent boys near Amarillo, TX, agreed to take me in and became my home. There at age 7, I gave my life to Jesus, and He changed my life and my destiny forever.
Truly, knowing and following Jesus the Messiah is the greatest adventure any human can experience, and both Suzanne and I live to share that joy with everyone we meet, here in the U.S. and around the globe. Thank you for your prayers and financial gifts that allow us to invest all our time, talent, and energy in helping fulfill our Lord's Great Commission. It is an honor to partner with you in serving our glorious God."
