Carey works with prison inmates in Arizona. He came to know Christ through Campus Crusade for Christ while in law school. He worked in the legal world in Dallas where he actively shared Christ and discipled new believers. But he soon realized that ministry was his passion, so he joined the staff of Campus Crusade in 1972.

After working on the college campus, overseas, and with businessmen, Carey started working with prison inmates in 2005. He helps Christian inmates become more intimate in their relationship with Christ and then equips them to help other inmates come to know Christ. He finds this is the most receptive group of Christians he has ever worked with.
