Teresa and I work with The Campus Ministry of Cru. We carry the LIGHT into some of the DARKEST places in our nation--the academic departments of our country's universities. While it is amazing how many good and godly professors and grad students there are on every campus, there is a spirit of intimidation that can only be dispelled by the light of God's truth.
Our aim is to follow the Lord by coaching and mobilizing Christian faculty to extend the good news of God’s love and forgiveness to their colleagues and students. The key to changing the university is changing the people in the university through the grace and truth of Jesus Christ. As the light of the gospel shines in the lives of believing faculty and grad students, we work toward the whole campus being reclaimed for Christ.
Almost everything in our culture flows DOWNSTREAM from the University. What is taught at the university today eventually flows down to influence government policy and promote new cultural values. And so it just makes sense to try to influence professors, graduate students and undergrads. This is why we believe God has called us to give the best hours of our days to reaching faculty and grad students and undergrads with the Christian message.
Larry works with Faculty Commons, Cru's ministry to university professors and grad students. Today's professors have an inordinate degree of influence over the culture and we seek to help professors leverage that influence for Christ. We work to encourage Christian professors to share their faith with (1) their many students they teach and counsel in their offices and (2) the graduate students they supervise (the next generation of professors). We also want to encourage them to integrate their faith as much as possible into their teaching and their research journal articles and books.
We are also encouraging professors to take a week or two to go with students on our international summer missions. Professors giving guest lectures in their disciplines attract MANY more students for the staff and summer students to have gospel conversations with while they are there. And ministry can go in both directions. Students have more access and opportunity with professors than anyone else at the university. So, strategically, we coach students how to take advantage of the many opportunities they have to help reach their professors with the gospel.
Teresa's role is with the People and Culture division. She is the Sending Coordinator in the geography that includes NC, VA, Washington DC, MD, and Delaware. She leads a team that evaluates and then hires new Cru U.S. Campus Interns, International Interns, Part-Time Field Staff, Full-Time Cru Staff, and Faculty Commons Staff.
We want to always be inviting others into the lifestyle of making Jesus and His name known globally. It is our joy to invite you to consider partnering with us.
