Aloha and Mahalo for visiting and Giving this way.
In our 40 plus years of full-time ministry with university and college students, we have had a great time. Seventeen years in Hawaii did a lot to shape who we are and how we do ministry. Another 16 plus years on the mainland in Southern California have continued to shape our character and leadership abilities. It seems that we have had a very fruitful ministry to this point with many coming to Jesus and making a stand for Him in the real world during and after college life. We have also had the privilege of helping campus ministries outside the US, specifically the Far East. We still believe the quote of Bill Bright "Change the Campus today, change the world tomorrow".
The Lord led us to make a change in January 2016 when we stepped back into National Leadership as City Executive Directors of Ethnic Diversity in the City ministry of Cru. Currently we serve on the City's Oneness in Diversity team which focuses on reaching the diverse population within our major US cities. In our minds we are at a crossroads between past ministry and future changing ministries defined by doing effective evangelism and ministry planting among every ethnic group in our cities. Our nation is rapidly moving toward being a country without an ethnic majority population. We feel the time is now to share Jesus with every tribe and tongue that comes to our country. It seems as though the Lord is bringing the world to us...and the concentration of future growth is in America's cities. So we have committed this chapter of our lives as missionaries to help our organization become a reflection of our cities, so that we might reach more people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through our experiences of living and ministering in the diversity of the Hawaiian Islands, the Lord has given us a strong voice to help in the inter-cultural development of our Cru City ministries, Staff, and leadership.
On an even more personal level we didn't know when we started what a great blessing it would turn out to be able to raise our kids, Joshua and Kathryn, in this environment. They have spent their whole lives around college students trying to figure out how to walk with Jesus. To have these many Godly models around constantly has done much to shape who they are today....and we are so grateful. Josh and our daughter(-in-law), Alexandra served with a church in the city of San Francisco. Kathryn served with Epic (the Asian American Ministry of CRU)and with Cru City as a ministry planter in San Francisco. As they hit their thirties the Lord led all of them to use their gift in the marketplace. We are so thankful these three are taking their own steps of faith and taking the love of Christ to the world.
Being Grandparents has been a joy. Our grandsons Liam and Gabriel are such blessings to us. Tutu Faye and Papa John are both smitten by these little guys. We pray someday you can meet them too.
For over 40 years one thing has remained true, we could have done nothing apart from the prayers and support of faithful friends and the unique blessing of our Lord. To Jesus be all the honor! And to you...Thanks!
