My History:
After graduating from Kean University with a BA in Deaf Education, I interned with the Jersey Metro Campus Ministry of Cru in 2007. After an internship, the Lord led me to join staff full-time and I served in New Jersey with a variety of college campuses and ultimately as the team leader until 2017. While working to reach college students, I recognized a spiritual gap along race lines and felt compelled to help coach Cru staff to reach people from all demographics as commanded in the Great Commission.
Why?
Initially, I was the only Hispanic-American on staff in my region (with few ethnic minority students) and developed a heavy heart to reach the ethnic minority students in New Jersey. Secondly, as one who was raised going to church regularly, I felt burdened to engage with those who call themselves Christian but don't understand or have a personal relationship with Jesus. I found this to be a majority of ethnic minority students I engaged with on campuses in New Jersey.
Later, I recognized the need for our staff across the nation to be educated on certain histories and realities, coached in various strategies, developed in their Christian faith, and grow in their capability to go to people of all nations (ethne) here in the U.S.A.
Current Reality:
I'm now a qualified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory, a CQ Certified facilitator with the national Cultural Intelligence Center, and a graduate of multiple leadership programs.
As this country seems to grow in racial tension and extreme division, my heart yearns to see the day where people of all diverse backgrounds have an opportunity to know Jesus Christ and love one another well.
My new positions with the Cru Oneness & Diversity team and the U.S. Leadership Development HR teams will allow me to help in this effort through coaching and training staff with Cru around the country. Click here to read more about my story.
