My name is Jaicey Bledsoe. I'm the little brown girl in white glasses! ; ) I love superheroes and animals and movies and nature and books and... well, you get the picture. But most importantly, I love Jesus! I am here to tell you about how I'm spending my spring break, and to ask for your help to make it happen!
Earlier this year, I was made aware of a mission trip to Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. As soon as I heard about it, I felt a call. I wasn't sure if that call was to provide support through prayer and/or donation, or if it was a call for me to go in person. After prayer and talking with my best friend Hannah (the red-headed ball of sunshine pictured above) and my parents, I came to the conclusion that it was a 'who will go for us?' kind of call. Isaiah 6:8 says, 'And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here I am! Send me." (NIV) This is what I will be living out by going on this mission trip. I have always felt the need to travel, and I am very much a people person. I care about individual people, and what they are going through in their lives. Missions are a mashup of those things and many more! This will be my first mission trip and I am so excited for the amazing opportunity!
I decided to listen to His voice, shut out all the doubts about financing (He has never failed before) and whether I was really supposed to go. I applied. This decision was hard for me to accept at first, and even after I applied, I still waffled back and forth. The week of the mission trip, March 24-31, is tech week (the week of daily dress rehearsals leading up to the performances) for a passion play called Upon This Rock that I have been in for the last six years. I was torn between the two. I felt like I was letting the UTR crew down since I was expected to play a certain role, a speaking role I just gained last year. However, God is faithful, and He put those fears to rest. I will always be a part of the UTR family, and I can participate in the play next year. I will not have the opportunity to go to Puerto Rico and be His witness on March 24-31, 2018 ever again. I knew I had made the right decision.
Last year, Puerto Rico was hit by Hurricane Maria, and it left behind some of the worst devastations in history. Mayaguez is one of the cities that was hit the hardest and having the worst time recovering from it. Those devastations have not all been rectified, and yet, people and support have stopped arriving recently. That is part of what my mission is on this trip to Puerto Rico. We will be aiding the Global Aid Network (GAiN) in providing clean water to the people of Mayaguez as part of our humanitarian efforts. Cru is going to Mayaguez to be a light in the darkness left by the disaster they faced last fall. We will be God's messengers and bring His peace and hope to their lives, while prayerfully transforming the area for His glory! We hope to start a revival in the high schools and homes of several Puerto Ricans, and creating a space for God to move in their lives.
To get there, I need help. Help from family, friends, and anyone else God chooses to use. I need to raise the remaining $700 of my $2000 fund by March 23rd in order to be able to go on this mission trip. You can be a part of the mission of hope by doing one or more of a few different things:
- Click that orange "Give a Gift" button and donate an amount of your choosing.
- Help me reach my goal by purchasing bracelets. If you are interested in this, please email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Pray, pray, pray! Pray that God would work a miracle and provide the funds needed to get me there. Pray that he would prepare the way for us and open the hearts and minds of those who don't know Him. Pray for our safety. Also, pray that we would enjoy the trip! That we wouldn't be so much in our own heads or agendas that we miss opportunities to connect with people and share Jesus by being in the moment.
- Spread the word! If you know anyone who would like to support me in this venture, whether through prayer or donation, please share this site with them! You can also share my personal website, jaiceybledsoe.com, where I will be blogging and vlogging about the journey leading up to the trip, as well as the trip itself. (Be forewarned, it is in a transitional phase right now, so it isn't perfect. :) )
Thank you so much for your time, prayers, and support! It is much appreciated!
