From the beginning, we have believed that today’s college students are tomorrow’s leaders. One student encountering Jesus can begin a story that reaches far beyond campus—to families, workplaces, communities, and nations. Through every role and assignment God has given us, our desire has remained the same: to help students know Christ, grow in their faith, and carry His love and truth to people who may otherwise never hear.

Today, Christa and I have the joy of living out that vision through ATX Bridges International in Austin and at the University of Texas. With more than 20,000 international students in the Austin area—including 8,000 at UT representing over 140 nations—the opportunities to welcome, build friendships, and share the hope of Jesus are extraordinary. God has brought the nations to our doorstep, and we have the privilege of helping students find both a home away from home and an opportunity to encounter Christ.

UT’s slogan, “What Starts Here Changes the World,” captures our prayer for this ministry. We long to see what God begins in a student’s heart here in Austin bear fruit for generations and across nations. A friendship formed over dinner, an honest conversation about faith, or a first look at Scripture can become part of a life-changing journey with Jesus. After 32 years, we remain expectant about what God will do next.

Alongside the joy of ministry, we are grateful for our growing family: our four children and their spouses—John and Jessica, Benjamin and Taylor, Stephen and Allison, and Elizabeth and Seth—and our three precious grandchildren, John IV, Davis, and Ryder.
