Walking in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul in Athens Greece.
Before we came to Greece in 2006, we were living in different countries. Giannis (John) is Greek, but was born and raised in a city called Schweinfurt (Germany) and Anahita was born and raised in the capital of Armenia (Yerevan).
We both left our countries and came to Greece to study at the University of Athens. As the economic crisis began in 2008, we could see clear signs of moral crisis within the Greek society. This made us feel disappointed and sad for a country that gave the foundations of philosophy, democracy and architecture to the world. At first we thought the economic crisis would be an opportunity for the Greek community to leave their unethical habits behind and begin a new life. However, this was not the case. As time went by, we realized that the only thing that could make a difference in Greek morality was for people to get closer to God and his teaching.
In 2008 we became disciples of God through CRU Campus Ministry. We saw that God does not want mankind to perish, but he wants people to grow closer to him. Through the help of true believers, we began to read and understand the Bible and its teachings. We gained trust and faith in God. Since then, we decided to love and follow Jesus with all our souls and all our heart.
Our vision is to make people realize the Truth, the Values and the Glory given to them by the Gospel, in God's name. Our calling is to be used by Jesus to serve the Greek people, like we have been discipled before. Since we believe that the future of a society is shaped by its youth, we decided to come closer to the students and help them realize the Gift that was given to them. We want to spread the word of Jesus, so that one glorious day Greece will become a royal priesthood and a holy nation.
When the Covid-19 pandemic started in 2020 we were looking for more opportunities to serve the refugees that are coming to our country from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa. Then God helped us to establish GAiN/Unto Hellas to provide humanitarian aid for all people in need. This is how we can express the kindness of Jesus Christ to people living under the toughest circumstances in Greece by relieving suffering, restoring dignity, and revealing hope. We focus on revealing hope by sharing God’s unconditional love and restoring life by demonstrating the gospel through compassionate action to those living in injustice, poverty, and crisis around the world. Since the war in the Ukraine started, it is more prevalent today that we need to seek unity in Jesus Christ.
We pray for spiritual guidance and wisdom to be a life-changing encouragement to the people that are without hope as a result of the current crisis which is an agonizing journey for many.
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." 1 Peter 2:9
