Mike and Kathy were both introduced to Christ through Cru as college students. As they grew in their faith, they very quickly and completely embraced Dr. Bright's idea of "win the college campus today, win the world tomorrow". As the first followers of Jesus in their families, Mike and Kathy were passionate that others who grew up as they had would also be given the opportunity to have a relationship with God through Jesus.
Starting out in the military ministry of what was then Campus Crusade for Christ, the Unos have invested the last 54 years of their lives (and counting!) in living out this passion. In 1981, they became some of the first Cru staff to move into Hungary, still under Communism. Over the years, their experience in making multiplying disciples in "secure" locations led Mike to go on to lead the Cru ministry not only in Hungary, but also Romania - before being asked to move to East Asia in 2000.
Upon their return to the US in 2013 to care for Mike's aging mom and handicapped sister, Mike and Kathy were able to turn their 33 years of cross-cultural living into an opportunity to bless the community of immigrants and internationals living in their area (Peoria, IL). After starting a robust ministry offering English as a Second Language classes, Mike is now moving into a more personal role with some of these families. He will soon be launching a course to help two or three families at a time who are in transition to the US, walking with them through new systems, processes, language, habits, norms, foods, and more. (Kathy has been disabled for a few years, but still prays with the best of them!)
Even after 54 years, Mike is excited to continue to share the love of Christ with people who have not heard. This new ministry provides the perfect relational context in which to do just that.
