David came from an unchurched background and Kathie a churched background but neither of them heard a clear presentation of the Gospel until they were in college where they both placed their trust in Christ. Both grew as believers through the influence of other godly men and women. David and Kathie worked in the marketplace upon graduation. However, God used their college experiences to call them into vocational Christian ministry as they each saw how strategic it was to reach students for Christ. David has served for for 34 years and Kathie for 42 years. They were married in 1987 and they have two sons, Joel and Carson.
David and Kathie have served in multiple roles, mostly focusing on reaching college students for Christ. Now they take their experiences gained from serving in the Campus Ministry to reach and mobilize adult professionals in Raleigh/Wake County for Christ. They currently oversee the Re|engage Marriage Ministry at their church and have a vision to expand Re|engage to several other churches in the Triangle. They also spend a good bit of time mentoring/discipling late 20 and early 30 year-olds in the Triangle.
Additionally, they are responsible for equipping new and existing missionaries with the principles and skills necessary to trust God for their financial provision. They also equip missionaries with principles and skills to manage God's provision biblically. Their work accomplishes two purposes: 1) getting new missionaries to their assignments quickly as there is an urgency to this work and, 2) longevity in ministry.
David and Kathie are motivated in ministry by Matthew 9:36-38: "When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field.'"
