Who we are: Alan and Chrissie Schutz
Chrissie and Alan have been a part of Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) since 1993. Prior to that, Alan worked as executive director for an art center and Chrissie as a paralegal. Their business backgrounds and hearts for helping leaders be transformed by and for the Gospel have uniquely prepared them to serve in marketplace ministry.
From having served on a local field team to leading as National Directors of Priority Associates (Cru’s former U.S. marketplace ministry), they found their niche in coaching/discipling the leaders of developing city ministries around the country and the world. In 2013, they were asked to be a part of a unique team to develop and pilot a new Cru program for leaders internationally. The program, now called the Cities Project Global, was successful and began to develop initially in Africa and in Brazil, where Alan and Chrissie traveled frequently to assure quality program advancement. In 2018, Alan shifted to Associate Staff status (volunteer) with Cru in order to serve Lifework Leadership Orlando as a local ministry expression engaging marketplace leaders. Chrissie remains in her full-time role with Cru.
Current priorities for Cities Project Global have a strong focus on scaling the process and curriculum to be available in the top 700 population centers/cities in the world by 2030. Currently, Chrissie serves as Chief Operations Director for CPG, and Alan writes curriculum and coaches globally. Initially, pandemic travel concerns seemed to stall global expansion plans - instead, pivoting to utilize Zoom with a dozen worldwide cities engaged, we are poised to initiate 6 new cities in 2021/22 led by volunteers.
Chrissie and Alan have been married for 39 years and have two grown children - Elizabeth, a teacher in NYC, and Zach, an attorney in Washington DC.
What we do: The Cities Project
The DNA of Cru has always been central to an individual's spiritual foundation and spiritual growth. "Win-Build-Send" points us to having and developing a relationship with Christ that propels us forward, beyond ourselves, to have an impact far beyond our individual circumstances. Leaders across every domain of the city have the responsibility and privilege of living out their unique God-given purposes toward Kingdom purposes that impact the world. We help them do that. We help them do that well.
The Leadership Circle curriculum is CPG's flagship delivery program, and being added to that are other small group discussion series, workshops, technology, and blogs. These tools help us coach and mentor leaders from every sphere of influence in a city. Our goal is the personal transformation of each individual and through that the transformation of the people and the world around them. "City Renewal Projects" are an opportunity for leaders to lean into their passion and call to make a difference for Christ. Our philosophy behind ministry is to help marketplace leaders develop real and practical steps to bridge the gap between "reality" to developing spirit-led city-wide movements of the Gospel.
