Pete and Michaela both became involved with Cru as students at Northwestern University. Pete began following Jesus as a freshman at NU through some students involved with Cru. Michaela began following Jesus as a child, and felt the call to missions growing up at her home church, Johnson Ferry Baptist in Marietta, GA. After graduating, they enjoyed a few years of interning with Cru at Northwestern. From 2011-2017 they served in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois with a team of staff seeking the reach the 120,000+ college students of Central Illinois at schools like Illinois State University. In 2017, they were asked to move to Fort Collins, Colorado, where Pete served as the Team Leader at Colorado State University for 6 years. 

Today, they live and serve in the Saint Louis Metro area (Pete's hometown) reaching college students at schools like University of Missouri St. Louis & Lindenwood University. Their staff team serves at 13+ campuses in and around the city. The Averys enjoy trusting God to change lives, and love seeing Him do just that year after year. They love good food, gardening, exploring St. Louis, and living life together with their five children, Lucy (Apr 2010), Adam (Dec 2011), Herman (Dec 2013), Paul (Dec 2015), and Walter (Nov 2019).
