College athletes are competing at a level that has typically required them to be incredibly invested in their sport for many years. For this reason, many of them have at some point allowed their sport (and the successes or failures it leads to) to become their hope in life. For the majority of college athletes, competing in their sport will end once they have completed their degree. For student athletes who had found their hope in their sport for many years, this can lead to a lack of a sense of purpose and leave them feeling confused about who they are outside of their sport. On the other hand, the small number of college athletes who do go on to play professionally, will only delay this same outcome until the end of their professional sports career if they continue to place their hope in their sport and not in Jesus.
