My Story

I was born and raised in Wichita, KS, and grew up in a very abusive and chaotic environment. Because of the lack of control in my home, I found control outside through smoking, drinking, stealing, and other rebellious behavior. My parents got divorced when I was in 4th grade. I saw my father less and less, the abuse and extreme rebellious behavior slowly faded away and the influence of religion came into play as my mother continued to take me to church every Sunday.

By the time I reached high school, I started to go to church with my aunt. The students in my new youth group seemed like they were perfect and did not struggle with "real sin" as I did. For four years, I tried to be "perfect" just like them, so that I could be baptized like they were. Of course, that never worked out and I fell back into my rebellion and turned to self-harm.

As I learned more about Christianity, mission trips were a topic that was brought up a lot. I had many opportunities to go on a mission trip during my middle school and high school years but never felt qualified enough to go on one. I also did not get an encouraging reaction from my family when I mentioned my interest, so I hid my interest in missions and tried to forget about it.

It was not until the summer after my senior year of high school that I heard the Gospel very clearly. I went to a “Christ in Youth” conference and on the last night, I felt the speaker had been watching me my whole life. Everything he said was true about me and the way I had thought about life. He shared an illustration of the Gospel I had never heard before. Because of that, I finally understood that I cannot have a relationship with God and walk along the bridge of life successfully without Jesus Christ. So, that night I prayed to receive Christ, the next Sunday I was baptized, and three weeks later I started at Emporia State University.

In college, as I gradually trusted His guidance and not my own, the Lord showed up in many ways in my life. One was that I actually graduated from college with honors after almost failing out my sophomore year. Another is that over time, I have been able to forgive the men in my life who have hurt me. Also, while in college, I went on my first missions trip and learned that God does not call the qualified, but he qualifies the called.

My Work History with Cru

Starting in Aug 2014, I spent two years interning at Cru’s National Headquarters in the high school ministry’s International Missions department. I took students to Slovakia, Ecuador, and the Philippines and saw both American and international high school students’ lives transformed by the Gospel. The Lord used these experiences to lead me to the ministry field full time. From August 2016 to August 2020, I was in charge of launching Cru's high school ministry in Kansas.

My Current Assignment

In August 2020, I was sent back to Cru's International headquarters in Orlando, FL, to utilize my administrative skills in finding, training, and caring for new missionaries in the United States and around the world who also have a heart for reaching high school students with the Gospel. A missionary's first year on the job and navigating life can be rocky. I am very excited to help staff navigate their first few years on the job, while reaching teenagers directly myself, at the same time!!!

My Need

Like many other missionary organizations, Cru staff members have the responsibility to develop this team of financial partners who provide the necessary finances for their ministries, including salary and business-related expenses. I am currently in need of $2000 a month in order to compensate for the higher cost of living here in Florida, as well as the costs associated with my increased travel schedule. Would you prayerfully consider partnering with me in my ministry through a monthly investment of $100 or some other amount significant to you?
