Our Call to Ministry
My wife, Angela, and I were both born in Taiwan and grew up in Christian homes. We came to the United States at a young age and eventually met and married at our church in San Jose, California. We have been blessed with two lovely daughters as life has been fairly smooth for the past twenty-seven years of our marriage.
However, even though both of us have been blessed with steady jobs, children and a loving family all these years living in Silicon Valley, something still seemed missing in our lives. We felt that we wanted to be people on a mission to do something bold for God. We sensed a need to step out of our comfort zones and experience more of what God has planned for us by sharing the Gospel and help couples to establish a God-centered marriage and family.
Part of our motivation can be attributed to the people whom we have known that have given up their high-tech careers in Silicon Valley and opted to attend seminaries instead and serve God in full-time ministry to fulfill the Great Commission as Jesus has commanded us to do. In addition, Angela and I had attended our first Weekend To Remember (WTR) event as part of the CRU/FamilyLife ministry back in May, 1996 in Burlingame, Ca. This event helped us to shape our focus for building a healthy marriage and to raise a God-centered family in our busy lives.
As years passed, I use to listen to KCBS 740AM all news, all sports, weather and traffic radio program all the time while driving to work and would feel depressed after hearing all the disturbing news around us. Then I started to listen to KFAX 1100 AM with the FamilyLife Today radio program instead. This daily radio broadcast not only taught the Scriptures but also encouraged listeners through personal, practical, biblical and transformational content. They also invited renowned guest speakers regularly (such as Joni Erickson Tada, John McArthur, Francis Chan and others) who would talk about their own life struggles, testimonies and share their teachings with helpful books, audio cds and other resources which has been such a blessing for me and my wife along with all the listening audience across the country.
As we discovered how wonderful and helpful FamilyLife ministry has been for us, we started to share this ministry with others and began to use more and more of the resources they provided and even became a legacy partner. Angela and I decided to attend another Weekend To Remember (WTR) event in Monterey, Ca in Dec 2014. We even invited a good friend of ours and his wife to join us this time. We were all able to walk away from the conference refreshed and with many ideas, insights and resources to strengthen our marriages as well as committed to become a part of this ministry.
“The strength of a nation lies in the homes of its people” as quoted by Abraham Lincoln. Therefore, we know that strong and healthy families make up the core foundation of a healthy and strong society and nation. Angela and I can think of no better way to help the many families around us that are struggling and experiencing challenges with marriage and trying to keep their families together but to join FamilyLife as staff members. We pray that God will use us effectively in His way in building Godly families that will provide help for today and hope for tomorrow for all through this ministry.
