I've been a missionary with Cru since 2014 because God's glory is so compelling.
Participating in Cru's ministry at Yale changed my life. As I read the Bible and invested in transformational community, the moralistic faith I had internalized growing up (despite gospel-centered teaching) became exhilarating, freeing, and something worth excitedly sharing! I learned to read and apply Scripture, to help others to do so, and to talk winsomely with non-Christians about how the hope of Jesus deeply satisfies our longing hearts. As I practiced ministering to others and tasted the joy of seeing changed lives, I was challenged to surrender worldly ambitions to “make something of myself” like those who excel in the Ivy League are expected to do. This is constantly hard to do, but again and again I find that Christ is supremely worth it.
After graduation, I took the step of faith to serve with Cru rather than pursue more tangible accolades for my own glory, as I was tempted to do—and God has demonstrated that he’s been shaping me for this purpose all along. My studies in philosophy, psychology, and religion equipped me for conversations about what is true, what is good, and how to find joy, enabling me to help Yale students grapple with the beauty and implications of the gospel for their lives and the world. Later, as Michael and I married and moved to Arizona for his PhD, God used my experience with athletics, injury, and crossing cultures to launch a diverse and flourishing movement of athletes who desire to grow in their faith and reach their teammates for Christ. My passions for learning and for effective, transformational coaching & teaching methods have developed both new staff who are establishing theological foundations for long-term missionary work as well as experienced staff members learning to lead larger teams into healthy character growth, fruitful ministry, and strategic efforts to reach more campuses across the nation and world.
In each unique chapter, God has used my background and season of life to bear eternal fruit for his Kingdom. As time has passed, my motivation to minister with my life has stayed the same: “At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”(Philippians 2:10-11), and I want to see lost people joyfully bow to Christ now, enjoying all the benefits of fellowship with him for eternity.
If this vision compels you, would you be a part of what God is doing through my work? Like many missions organization, Cru staff members take on the privilege, challenge, and responsibility of gathering a team of ministry partners who believe in our mission & vision and financially support our work (to cover salary, taxes, benefits, administration costs, and ministry expenses). Cru seeks to win, build, and send Christ-centered multiplying disciples who launch spiritual movements, so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus. In this chapter as a young mom in the intense culture of New England, my missional contribution includes discipling students, coaching AIA staff leaders to reach hundreds with the gospel, and endeavoring to share the hope of the Jesus with other families. I love dreaming of how God might use our ministry partnership for his Kingdom!
Would you consider joining my team as a monthly financial partner? Together, we’ll give students and families an opportunity to connect with Jesus and to be a part of a community that's making an eternal impact.
