Joe and Melissa Summers

Joe and Melissa Summers are on staff with Cru’s Campus Ministry, working to impact the lives of college–aged students around the world. Through their ministry with Cru, our hope to WIN students to Christ, BUILD them up in their faith, and SEND them out as lifelong servants of Jesus. We were both involved with Cru as college students ourselves (Joe at Virginia Tech, Melissa at Pitt) and we even actually met on a Summer Mission trip through Cru! After seeing how God used Cru so dramatically in our own stories, we are so glad that God has invited us to turn around and give today’s students what was once given to us.


OUR WORK

While many Cru staff serve on specific campuses, working to win, build, and send through in-person ministry, Melissa and I serve in a support role out of our office in Downingtown, PA. We specifically work in the area of Fund Development, supporting local ministries to make sure they have the funding and manpower needed to make Jesus known. A few ways we do this:


  • Event Planning: we help local Cru teams to plan fundraising events and strategies that provide funding for all of the vital ministry events they do on campus
  • Partner Engagement: we plan events and trips that give Cru’s partners the opportunity to volunteer with Cru and use their God-given gifts to advance His Kingdom
  • Coaching: we advise and coach dozens of Cru teams across the US on creating and implementing effective Fund Development strategies
  • Training: Joe has created and manages a Cru website called TeamGold which trains its over 1,000 users in event planning, donor relations, professional Fund Development, and more.
Through these opportunities and others, we are humbled by the ways God uses our ministry with Cru to advance the gospel all around the world!

OUR LIFE

Melissa and I moved to Southeastern PA after getting married in 2015. Since then, God has blessed us with two children: Katie (2019) and Michael (2021). With two younger kids at home, you can probably imagine that we are certainly kept busy! Right now, Joe works full-time in the office and Melissa stays at home with the kids.

PARTNERING WITH US

As our family has grown and we have progressed into a new stage of life, our financial needs have grown dramatically. The largest of these needs is buying our first home in one of the most expensive counties in PA. To position us for the future life and ministry that God has called us to, our current goal is to raise $4,000 in new monthly support.

Would you consider joining us in ministry by making a commitment somewhere in the range of $100/mo to $500/mo? Please know that any amount is a great help to our ministry, even if it falls outside of that range.

We know that many of our partners find they can give more annually than monthly, and this is still a massive help to us! We are currently praying for 5-10 people who can commit to giving $5,000 or $10,000 annually.
