Skylar Reckers

I’ve had a longtime passion for ministry and for outdoor adventure, but I never dreamed the two would converge. After I graduated from college with a Biology degree my wife, Maggie, and I took a career pause to spend a year at a church youth camp, a pause that softened our hearts for fulltime camp ministry. While attending Faircreek Church in Fairborn, Ohio, Maggie and I befriended Ed and Debbie Gersch, who are on staff with the Sport Complex and Retreat Center for Athletes in Action. They had been searching for a new director of the center’s outdoor challenge course, a position that, curiously, combines ministry and outdoor adventure. As our relationship developed and our conversations grew deeper, Ed and Debbie challenged us to see what God might have in store for us with Athletes in Action. It didn’t take long to see all the ways God had been preparing me for this position and for me to answer His call into fulltime ministry with Athletes in Action.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

It is wildly fulfilling to step into the ministry works that God has been preparing for us. If you would like to get a bigger picture of how God is using Athletes in Action's ministry to impact the world, check out AIA's website at I consider it a privilege to be able to use my gifts and talents to help accelerate the fulfillment of the Great Commission.
