My name is Amanda Christianson. I am serving on staff with Athletes in Action in partnership with Fellowship of Christian Athletes in and around the Twin Cities. I have been able to disciple student-athletes from the University of Minnesota and St. Cloud State University. I have also been able to interact with student-athletes from Hamline, Augsburg, Concordia St. Paul, St. Thomas, and Macalaster.
Here is a little more about me... I had the amazing opportunity to play basketball for 4 years at St. Cloud State University. In high school, I was very involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Heading into college I wanted to continue to be a part of a similar group. At SCSU, there was Athletes in Action (AIA), a Cru ministry. I got plugged in and became a student leader for my 4 years on campus. I got to connect and fellowship with a group of amazing women every week while digging into God's Word and learning more about God. Most importantly, I was able to grow in my relationship with Christ.
Why do I feel that God has called me into full-time ministry, specifically with Athletes in Action? Well, my freshman year of college, I was sitting in my tiny dorm room studying for hours on end. Suddenly tears streamed down my face. I remember thinking to myself, "What am I doing here?" "Why am I sitting in this dorm room, while there are people out in the world that are dying who don't know Jesus?" I sat there with an extreme burden for the lost and for those who hadn't heard the name of Jesus. I now know, looking back, that this was the first time God was truly calling me into ministry. I love Jesus, I love people, and I love sports, and Athletes in Action brings these three things together perfectly for me.
After two years of serving with AIA, I am able to reflect on all that God has accomplished and the blessing it has been to join Him in His work. I am so thankful to be able to live out my passion and purpose by making disciples who make disciples while being a spiritual mentor and support system for others. My heart is to help those who are dealing with challenges, hurt, pain, and suffering. My hope is to see people find peace, comfort, hope, and JOY through Jesus Christ and use the platform of athletics to proclaim His name to teammates, families, friends, fans, campuses, and the entire world!
As an Athletes in Action staff member, I must develop a team of partners who will support me financially and/or prayerfully for my ministry. There are no central funds for paying salaries and ministry expenses. Athletes in Action staff members depend upon the consistent financial support of concerned individuals. We invite others to partner with us to reach people for Christ. I must find a team of people who will partner with me by giving monthly or a special gift to support my ministry.
Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus said, "Therefore GO and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Thank you so much for your support! God's blessings!
