History
With its beginnings in 1869, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma has become a strategic Combat Training Center for both Field Artillery and Air Defense Artillery. Known as the Fires Center of Excellence, Ft. Sill is the Army’s premier training and development proponent for long range precision fires. Fort Sill is a large installation (94,000 acres) and is located approximately 90 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. It boasts a total installation population of 53,000 including 20,000 military and civilian personnel, and 33,000 military family members.
Mission
Fort Sill serves as a gateway to the Army where over 25,000 new Soldiers are received and trained through Army Basic Training each year. All Soldiers and Marines with the specific Field Artillery and Air Defense Artillery skill sets receive their training at this installation.
Ministry
Cru Military’s primary focus at basic training locations is our Gateway ministry which centers on Cru Military’s latest initiative known as Spiritually Fit, Ready to Serve (SFRS). In the Gateway/SFRS ministry, trainees hear the Good News of Jesus Christ, build and develop a foundation in the faith, and learn to share the gospel with others - the fulfilment of our Win, Build, Send effort.
Statistically, nearly 75% of new trainees that attend Cru Military services are unchurched and have not heard the truth of the gospel. Through our weekly Gateway/SFRS meetings, they learn how to be spiritually fit, ready, and resilient in order to face the difficulties that Soldiers encounter in today’s operational environment.
The vision of our Gateway ministry is that every soldier becomes grounded in their faith in Jesus Christ. Cru Military believes that each man or woman in uniform, bearing arms and subject to enemy action, deserves first priority in hearing the Gospel of Jesus.
