God is so Good!!………. That seems like a simple statement, yet the truth of that statement is profound. As the song-writer wrote many years ago, “God is so good, He’s so good to me.”

About four years ago Kristen and I experienced God’s goodness in some truly amazing ways. At that point, we were married for twenty years. Our marriage wasn’t “bad,” but we had experienced the slow drift that so many of our marriages have experienced. There was no open conflict, no obvious problems, in fact, from the outside everything looked normal. We were friends, we loved to be together as a family, however, on the inside we had drifted apart emotionally and physically.

One of my favorite phrases in the Bible is “but God” (Romans 5:8, Ephesians 2:4). It signifies times when God breaks into our lives and changes everything. We experienced one of these “but God” moments while we were on vacation in North Carolina’s Outer Banks. As we spent time together that week, we began to talk about the drift that we had experienced. This is where the “but God” moment came in. God showed us that emotional and physical distance was not what He wanted for our marriage. He showed us that our marriage could be so much more. It was at this point that He stepped in and changed everything.

Family Life’s calling is to move couples from Isolation to Oneness to Impact. In North Carolina, God moved us from isolation into true oneness. “But God” (there's that phrase again) wasn’t done with us. We began to feel a strong calling by God to share with other couples the pathway to oneness we had experienced. He wanted to take our marriage to the next step; impacting others. Over the next few years our passion for marriage ministry grew and grew. Finally, in October of 2020 we decided it was time to step out in faith and move into marriage ministry full time. This is when we began our journey with Family Life.

Kristen and I serve as FamilyLife Local missionaries in southeastern Pennsylvania.  We work directly with couples as Marriage Mentors.  As Marriage Mentors we journey along side hurting couples, introducing them to the Biblical truths that can change their marriage and family.

We have a vision to train others to be Marriage Mentors as well.  Our hope is to see trained Marriage Mentors in every congregation.

We work with our Pennsylvania Weekend to Remember events, connecting with couples who need extra help, as well as discipling people who have trusted Christ for the very first time.

Using our Weekend to Remember events as a catalyst, we work with local churches to identify lay leaders who have desire to start a year round marriage and family ministry within their church.  We aid them by providing training and the Biblically based marriage and family resources they need to have a successful ministry.

Thank you so much for choosing to support us in this vital ministry.  The family is the basis of society and when it breaks down so does our society.  Thank you for standing with us to see marriages and families changed through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Blessings,

Steve and Kristen Scholl
