There is an unwritten explosion of church planting happening around the world as you read this.

I became sure of the truth of the gospel in my eighteenth year, about to start college in Albany, NY. God blessed me with much adventure there at SUNY Albany as I studied journalism and served with Cru's campus ministry, and I eventually joined staff with Cru after graduating.

One summer I found out about a ministry of Cru I had not known about - StoryRunners. This church-planting ministry exists because a majority of the entire world's population actually learns best through listening and speaking, not reading and writing. There are countless people groups, some with millions of members, who wouldn't be able to understand the gospel even if they had a Bible printed in their language. That's because oral cultures communicate through spoken stories, not written materials.

StoryRunners’ School of Storying is a residence workshop with local people who produce and are equipped to use The Promise, a series of Bible stories from Creation to the Return of Jesus, in their own language in just four weeks. Afterward, national believers use The Promise for evangelism, discipleship, and church planting. I now have the distinct honor of working as a journalist for this ministry - allowing those from literate cultures (like you!) to hear how God is changing lives through spoken Bible stories.

Will you join me in supporting this fascinating and critical mission?

in Christ,

Joe Hoffman
