I am incredibly thankful that you are taking the time to consider what it would mean to join my ministry partner team whether that be prayerfully or financially! Below is an overview of the need for this ministry, why I am joining this organization, and what it would mean for you to join my team! Please let me know if you have any additional questions about my faith, my experience with Athletes in Action or my role in the organization, I would love to share more with you! I look forward to cultivating a great relationship with you as you consider to join my team!
Why is there a need?
Most people believe that collegiate athletes have it all together and that could not be further from the truth and that could be said for all of us. Tom Brady is one of the best quarterbacks to play in the NFL, having won 7 Super Bowls and been named Super Bowl MVP 5 times among other accolades. After winning his third Super Bowl ring Brady questioned that there had to be more to life than that. So often athletes, especially college athletes find themselves putting all of their identity in their sport. So many athletes believe that their worth is defined by how they perform in their respective sports and what the stat book says about them.
What is Athletes in Action?
When Athletes in Action was founded in 1966 they created a vision for their ministry that there will be Christ followers on every team, in every sport, in all nations. My role will be to encourage female athletes at Northern Illinois University to know what it means to know Jesus personally and the salvation he gives us, join a community that values them beyond their successes, and equip them to make a difference on their campus and their community. When athletes are able to come together to combine their faith and sport and grow more than imaginable, the impact is greater than anything else. This is a group of athletes joining together on the same journey to influence their teammates, families, and communities with the love of Jesus.
What is my Vision?
I am excited that I get the opportunity to be a part of what God is doing on this campus. My vision for this ministry is that every student-athlete would know another student-athlete who is truly following Christ. I hope that we can create a culture at NIU where athletes can find lifelong friends, be a part of a group that cares for them, and know more about who they have been created to be. In my two years being a leader of AIA I have seen the lives of athletes be changed from having their sport be who they are to becoming confident in who the Lord has created them to be. For years I have seen a number of athletes be won, built up, and sent out. Throughout my internship I want to see the hearts of athletes WON for Jesus, equip and BUILD them in their relationships with the Lord, and SEND them to the world to share the love and truth of Jesus. This ministry has changed my relationship with the Lord and allowed me to join a community that shares the same love of God. I am hoping that through my internship, I will witness athletes experience the same.
Why do I need Ministry Partners/What does that mean?
Athletes in Action which is the sports ministry of Cru Ministries, has no central funds for salaries and ministry expenses. Our salaries depend on the consistent support of concerned individuals and churches. I am making a commitment to my ministry partners to use their funds faithfully and fruitfully to further the kingdom of God. I know that this is not something that I can do from my own will, but it is the faithful work of the Lord. Before I am able to report for my internship, I will be gathering a team of ministry partners to join my team both prayerfully and financially. Any support is greatly appreciated, but what would help the most is $100-250 monthly or one time gifts! Through your commitment to prayer or giving we are able to fulfill a beautiful commission that the Lord has asked of us.
