Beaten and heartsick, Dafiya did not know if she would ever get out of her locked room...

The brutality had all started some months before, when she told her husband about a voice she heard while praying the prayers of her traditional religion—a voice that clearly told her: “You are chosen. You are mine.”

Dafiya* tried to discuss the matter with her husband. 

In response, he beat her.

But that night Dafiya had a dream, this time hearing, “Look for me because I am looking for you and I love you. I died on the cross for you. I am Isa (Jesus).”

Now, such a dream might seem rather extraordinary—and it is! But in places of deep spiritual darkness, where few have access to God’s Word or Christian witness, we hear accounts like this again and again. To reach the “unreachable”, God often uses exceptional means. It’s awesome to see.

In this case, Dafiya’s dream made her understand: It was Jesus who was calling to her. She needed to look for Him!

Desperate for further answers, she found a small group of Christians to ask. Knowing Dafiya came from the majority religion, they were too afraid to say much. But someone told her about Call Her Blessed—Cru’s ministry to provide safety and the gospel to women fleeing violence and abuse in the Middle East. By the time Dafiya finally reached our local missionaries, her heart was ready for the gospel. Like 95% of the women helped by Call Her Blessed, she prayed to receive Christ! She returned home devoted to Jesus and determined to cling to Him, no matter the cost.

This is where it gets so, so hard.

Dafiya was beaten again, brutally and repeatedly. Her husband took her five children from her. He and her parents literally locked her in her room. That door was always locked. There was no escape. And if she kept refusing to deny Christ, she would likely die there.

It was at this critical moment, when all hope seemed lost, that Dafiya looked up in her prison to notice: The door is unlocked!   

Then she heard a very distinct voice again, “Get out of the room! I’ve opened all the doors for you!”

Dafiya heeded that call and found every door she had to pass through miraculously unlocked! She fled to the safety of Call Her Blessed missionaries. Thanks to the support of people like you, she received the help she desperately needed: safe shelter, food, bedding, clothing ... even help to flee the country as she was now marked for death.

With the help of Call Her Blessed staff, Dafiya now has asylum somewhere safe. She is flourishing in ministry to others. Her greatest wish is that God would make a way for her children to hear the truth about Christ. 

Please pray that Dafiya’s children would come to faith and be reunited with their mom. She, and so many like her, have endured so much heartache, so much pain.
