These are places that are difficult to access.

Where outsiders, especially Christian missionaries, are generally not welcome. 

Where other religions dominate.

They’re hard to reach. Often Dangerous. Full of suffering … and because of all the obstacles, the people in these places have often never before heard about Jesus. 

But thanks to the partnership and prayers of people like you, the Lord is opening doors to reach these hardest places.  

When in-country teams arrive with gospel truth AND tangible help like clean water wells and filters, we can gain access where other efforts have failed. 

And when hurting people finally get that first drink of safe, clean water, their hearts grow eager to hear about the Living Water. 

It’s such a natural connection. And it’s how lives like Tarana’s* are touched. 

Tarana is a widow with two daughters in a very challenging nation. When her husband died, Tarana was desperate. To feed herself and her girls, she turned to prostitution.

But last year, Unto, working alongside Cru missionaries, arrived to drill a clean water well in their village. As many walk 2+ miles to get safe water — or risk using the dangerous, contaminated water that is closer at hand — the joy was palpable.

As the missionaries began to talk about Jesus, the Living Water, hearts were pierced. In fact, both of Tarana’s daughters turned to Jesus!

When the missionaries visited their home to begin to teach them more about the Bible, Tarana listened … shame and hope battling within her. She too came to faith — leaving a life of prostitution to follow Jesus!

A nearby church helped her set up her own small business to help the little family get by. Tarana began to joyfully share her story with others, helping them know the beautiful redemption of Christ. This former prostitute is now a powerful witness for Jesus!

Similar stories are repeated in village after village. It always starts with people who are suffering … sometimes losing loved ones (especially small children) to cholera, dysentery and other water-borne diseases. Missionaries arrive to offer clean water … and are allowed access because of the help they carry.

As they labor, they work to build relationships and share the gospel — and hearts are transformed. Often, missionaries leverage these clean water projects to start new churches in unreached areas … churches that touch generations! 

This is not a “help and go” effort. It’s about having a long-term physical and spiritual impact in 156 communities in the next year alone — relieving suffering and proclaiming truth in unreached pockets of the earth!

Testimonies like Tarana’s are just one of many. Another account from the field shared: in one very challenging nation, a visiting Cru missionary was astonished to see another well within sight of a new Unto-drilled well. Wondering why they would “waste” a well where fresh water was already available, locals explained: 

They weren’t allowed to drink from that well, because it had been drilled by followers of another religion. Only those who converted to that faith were welcome to the water.

Everyone in that village could see the contrast between that first well and the Christians’ well. The Jesus-followers welcomed ALL to partake of life-giving water. The freely offered gift of salvation was echoed in that well, and it transformed hearts.
