StoryRunners

#2817474 - StoryRunners Projects: Evangelism, Discipleship and Church Planting

In one area of Cameroon, women who follow the regional religion are embracing oral Bible stories in Fulfulde, their heart language. Though they follow a regional religion, the women attended church services. However, in church, they could only participate actively during singing. They had no other opportunity to speak.

But, a follower of Jesus has introduced their village to story groups, the oral equivalent of a Bible study. In a story group, people listen to an oral Bible story, learn that Bible story and discuss that Bible story. These women love participating in story groups because the leader encourages them to speak and values their input.

These same women regularly walk between six and twelve miles to sell milk and cheese in other villages. As they walk, they tell the stories they have learned in the story group to other women. Often they would sing songs to pass the time–it helps them to not focus on the length of the journey. The women have begun to make songs based on the oral Bible stories, and they sing them on their way to the market. What’s more, even in the market they tell the stories to others!

These women, who do not follow Jesus yet, have encountered Jesus through stories from His Word. Truth from God’s Word is taking root in their heart, and they are sharing that truth with others. Join us in praying for these women–it can be dangerous to become a follower of Jesus in this area. May they place their trust in Jesus and continue to be beacons of the gospel in a spiritually dark area of the world.

Your partnership can take God’s Word through oral Bible stories to people like these women, those who have been waiting to hear his story. Give your best gift today to see followers of Christ in communities of faith in every unreached oral people group.
