Staff leadership has a vision to train 7,000 more ethnic Christians, who they believe can share the gospel 600,000 times and see 5,000 new faith groups established. More than 10% of those reached could say yes to Jesus, leading to 60,000 or more new believers (conservative estimate).

    The Jesus Film Project coordinator for this project said: “As people are trained, as they walk into these village areas with the gospel, they find ethnic isolation, economic isolation, lots of hopelessness. Most have never heard of Jesus. Now, for the first time, people who speak their language arrive with a story of the God who loves them. Out of sight, in homes, in safe places, these workers show people the gospel through the players. The story is incredibly powerful and new to them. The people often react, ‘Can this be true? We've not heard this before,’ or ‘We've heard only a little but now we have seen with our own eyes and heard with our own ears.’ The film ‘JESUS’ connects with their hearts.”

    Workers and churches are ready. MicroSD cards and digital video players can be purchased in-country. Local Christians will load the “JESUS” film and discipleship material onto the microSD cards. The video players can be purchased for $120 each. Conservatively, staff believe that a small church equipped with five players can reach 600 people with the gospel. If 10% respond, a single church can lead 60 people to Christ, establishing up to six new faith communities or house groups. Remember, these are conservative estimates.

    $100,000 Challenge Grant:  The effectiveness of the hand-held video players is so encouraging that a generous couple has supplied the first $100,000 as a Challenge Grant to purchase the initial players and microSD cards. A total of $522,800 is needed by the end of October. This couple invites you to follow their lead and equip all these workers. Would you accept their challenge so more people can be reached?   

    Your gift of $120 will supply one player, helping to lead 12 people to Christ. Sixty dollars will help lead six to the Savior. A larger gift of $240 could lead 24 people to faith. And a gift of $600 will fully equip one house church with five players and microSD cards. Should you have the financial capability, a generous gift of $6,000 will equip 10 house churches that could lead 600 unreached people to faith.

    But time is of the essence! Workers are ready now. All the funds are needed by the Fall.     ✹  It’s why I want to tell you about a miracle and a man I will call Marvin.* He is a courageous partner who has worked with Cru^® and Jesus Film Project^® for many years. I cannot mention the name of the country where the miracle took place. It is too dangerous. You would recognize it immediately and understand my caution. I will let Marvin tell you what happened.

    “Despite the dangers, I felt compelled to make the trip. Just two months earlier, a major upheaval left millions reeling in pure chaos. Many, including Christians, were hiding, fearing a knock on the door. They were systematically being hunted and killed. It was a true hornet’s nest and the worst time to go. But the Holy Spirit led me, giving me a desire to personally deliver donations from many partners to feed hungry people in this nation. Many were unground believers, 300 families to be specific.

    “First, I needed a visa. But how? Most consulates had closed. So, I flew to a Middle Eastern city—one of the few with an operating consulate. In the waiting room, I met a man with an African accent, also seeking a visa. I will call him Chad. He was cordial, going in as a businessman. Eventually, they called Chad into the office. Soon he walked out with a visa in hand. Then it was my turn. The consulate officer asked, ‘Why are you going? Who are you? What are you taking with you?’ I shared just enough and, thankfully, I too received a visa. Back at the hotel, I called and arranged a flight for the next morning.

    “I was one of the last people to board the plane. I found an open seat. And there was Chad in the same row! During the flight, we talked more, just friendly conversation. We could not help but notice a boisterous American a couple of rows in front of us, bragging how he was going to start a business in the country.

    “My ‘business’ was to deliver the donated cash to help feed people, but to also complete another important delivery. One of my suitcases was filled with microSD cards containing ‘JESUS’ and other films. I was also carrying NewLifeBoxes^TM and video tablets to give to national partners so they could share the gospel. I had no idea what would happen if customs officers found the ‘contraband.’ I was obviously concerned. But I knew I was where God wanted me. I prayed.

    “After we landed, Chad and I along with others were directed to the exit at the back of the plane and walked down the stairs. When my feet hit the tarmac, it hit me—I am here! There were guards waiting for us, robed, with AK-47 assault rifles on their shoulders. Their eyes were empty, like an inner void. They steered us in a line to passport control and customs where I feared the officers could then find the equipment. Chad walked in front of me and apparently was recognized by the guards. They motioned for him to break from the line and go left through a side gate. He looked back at me and with a nod, gestured ‘follow me.’ I did.

    “We were bypassing the officers! As we waited inside, I looked back and saw that loud American businessman. Two guards had him by both arms, escorting him to a private office. We never saw him again. I thought, ‘That could have been me,’ but God protected.

    I got my luggage off the baggage carousel, and no one asked to inspect it! I was relieved. I called my contact who was waiting outside. He advised, ‘I can’t get to the terminal. You’ll have to walk through the parking lot and across the street to my car.’ So, with my luggage in tow, with all the ‘JESUS’ film equipment, I walked quickly to his car with no problems. But it wasn’t over ...    

    “Immediately, he gave me a long robe, so I would not stand out. As we drove to his apartment, every mile and a half we passed through a checkpoint manned by more empty-souled armed guards. At one checkpoint, a guard stuck his head in the window and looked me over. He said, ‘Your father’s beard is too fancy.’ God was with us!

    “At last, we arrived at the apartment. These Christians were so grateful and moved that someone cared enough to come in their time of need, to give them funds and tools so they could help families and show people ‘JESUS.’ Their workers will now go to the scores of remote villages in the hills and mountains. They will show unreached people ‘JESUS’ in their heart language. They report that people all over that country are very ready for the gospel.

    “By the way, about Chad, the man from the plane. He gave me his business card so we could stay in contact. But I never saw him again. When I got back home, I called the number on the card to thank him, but it was disconnected or inactive. I have wondered if Chad was really an angel … Please tell the friends of ‘JESUS’ that God goes with their gifts, from start to finish. He makes a way, protects, like He did for me. He is using their partnership to call thousands in this troubled nation out of darkness into the kingdom of His son, Jesus our Lord. Thank you to all!”

    I want to now tell you about an immediate, promising opportunity for reaching hundreds of thousands of people with the gospel using equipment similar to what God protected for Marvin. Again, I can’t mention the name of this country except to say it is in Asia. It is home to hundreds of ethnic minorities—people who are not valued, are marginalized and economically deprived. The great majority have never heard the gospel.

    ✹ Reaching these ethnic groups has always been difficult in this country, especially since the government severely oppresses churches, persecutes church leaders and bars missionaries. This is why a man with a great heart for these minorities adopted a pioneering way to give them the gospel. He travelled to Cru^® in Orlando where he learned about a proven strategy. Using small video players, he would train workers to go home to home, privately showing segments of the “JESUS” film, answering questions and explaining the gospel, story by story, to lead people to Christ.

    I cannot give you any further details (for security), but through his leadership, 600 workers were initially trained, then thousands more. We supplied a number of microSD cards and video players. At last report, they have seen at least 8,000 people come to Christ!

    First, 12 villagers came to Christ. These formed “JESUS” film small groups and have since branched out into a neighboring village. Another trained worker took the players to several villages (home to five different unreached people groups). Over 40 people from these villages came to faith after seeing and hearing Jesus speak in their heart language. They also formed small groups which have since multiplied into 10 more. These ethnic groups have gone from being considered unreachable to becoming self-multiplying, guided by the Holy Spirit. Many consider this strategy a true breakthrough for the most difficult of places.

    And as we know, God saw this moment coming, long before it did. The video players were so successful that ethnic believers offered to buy more digital video players from their own very limited funds.

    In the last four years, 20 new translations of “JESUS” have been completed to reach these specific ethnic groups. Now, we have a proven strategy for reaching them: training ready workers to use video players and microSD cards containing “JESUS.”
