Equipping these partners is so important that a generous donor couple of Jesus Film Project has taken the first step and given a Challenge Grant of $100,000. They hope you will follow their lead. The need is projected to be more than $4.2 million to fill hundreds of requests before us.
You’ll see many of the tools needed, ways you can equip the workers. Please remember that many local ministries and churches do not have the financial resources to purchase these showing tools. But they have people who are excited to use them and willing to go. As funds are received, you will be sending the gospel to people who have never heard. Partners are requesting:
● Deluxe Video Tablet Sets ($610) for small group showings, reaching audiences of up to 30.
● 50-Viewer Sets ($1,097) This compact set includes a small projector, charging cable and camera-style bag. It’s easy to carry as teams travel and share the gospel with unreached people in restricted nations.
● Church-Planting Backpack Kits ($3,270) This is a kit for larger audiences. Everything needed fits into a backpack: a collapsible screen, bright projector, speakers, a rechargeable battery and more. During its service life, one of these sets is expected to reach about 30,000 people with the gospel.
● MicroSD cards ($66 for 10) These are tiny but powerful tools, suitable for reaching people in the most closed areas on earth, where sharing the gospel can lead to persecution or death. These fingertip-sized cards can contain the complete “JESUS” film in up to 10 languages, along with portions or all of the Bible.
As you feel led, please pray about sending one or more of these tools to waiting workers. They will put the equipment you send to good use for His kingdom. May I start my letter by quoting a gracious partner of Jesus Film Project? What he said expresses all our hearts.
“We love investing in bringing people to Christ, resulting in eternal dividends. We give because we enjoy it … and we love seeing ministries who are effectively doing God’s work and making an impact for the cause of Jesus Christ. So, for us it’s an immense opportunity to take what God has entrusted to us and use some of that to give or invest rigorously in God’s work.” It’s our “immense opportunity” to partner with those 1,800 ministries and you. Working together, you can help take the good news to people who have never even heard the name Jesus.
I wish you could see what I see. God is moving in ways that keep reminding me this is His work, not ours. To Him will go all the glory. May God bless you for your partnership!
▲ Let me take you to a crowded train platform in Asia. Imagine you are standing next to Sophia, one of our trained volunteers, who is waiting for her train. She was watching “JESUS” on her tablet when suddenly, the screen froze. She slipped the tablet into her bag, boarded the train and fell asleep.
Mysteriously, somewhere along the journey, the tablet came alive. From inside her bag, the film began playing loudly in the heart language of the passengers around her.
An elderly man woke her saying, “Daughter, something is speaking in your bag. It sounds like it is saying something good.”
She pulled out the tablet and explained that they were hearing the film “JESUS.” She showed them all of “JESUS” and then other evangelistic films for the rest of the journey.
A 71-year-old grandmother repented and gave her life to Christ right on the train! Not only did that grandmother then go to a church Sophia referred her to, but she took her daughter, son and daughter-in-law with her. That grandmother is now attending the church, eager to be baptized. And it all started when a video tablet froze and mysteriously began playing at the right moment, in the right place.
▲ Next, I want to share an amazing testimony, not from a grandmother but from a witch doctor. He attended a public showing of “JESUS” by a film team that uses equipment you helped to provide. Here’s what he said:
“My name is Arish. I am 35 years old, and I was a sorcerer. I thank God for the [‘JESUS’] film. I had no religious background, no idea about relating with God. I was a sorcerer fond of telling lies, fornicating, drunkenness, theft, bewitching people to destroy their destiny and casting spells on them.
“However, when the team came and presented the film of Jesus Christ, I saw how Jesus raised to life a dead girl and how He calmed the storm. I marveled at the power He had, and I started desiring Him because I saw the ray of hope for my future in Him.
“The preacher spoke [after the film] about the love of God, saying that regardless of what you are and what sin you have done, God loves you the same. [I realized that] God [sent] Jesus to suffer, be crucified and die to pay the price of our sins, so that when we believe in Him, we shall not perish but have everlasting life. After three days, He rose from the dead, victorious over Satan, sin, death and sickness.
“I realized the sins I had been committing … I made a decision to surrender my life to Christ to be forgiven and receive everlasting life. When the preacher made an altar call for those who are willing to give their lives to Christ to put up their hands for prayer of commitment, I, too, put up my hands and he led us in prayer. Now I am in Christ, full of new hope. I am born again and I am feeling freedom and peace; also, I registered with a [discipleship group] to learn more about Christ and the Bible.”
▲ And lastly, this visionary report came from a Cru® staff member in Brazil*.
“Last year, I left a microSD card with a shepherdess in northern Argentine Patagonia. I also taught Érica, a dentist, how to use the [memory] card. She took this card to the top of the mountain range and installed the features on Silvana's husband’s phone. This family listened to the Bible and watched the ‘JESUS’ movie. Then Érica gave them a Torch flashlight [light and audio player]**. There, at the top of the mountain, without visits from pastors or leaders, this family was built up and preached to others using their cell phones and flashlights.
“This year, in partnership with the Presbyterian leadership of Brazil, we will be training hundreds of people with ‘Knowing Jesus’ [an interactive series], and we hope to provide Torches in villages to start Bible groups.… This project will not only bless the people of the Amazon but will help solidify our [ministries] with the partners we work with there.”
The staff member who assembled this report added: “It is your partnership that helps supply those partner ministries with translations of ‘JESUS’ [now numbering 2,270], showing equipment like the highly portable Church-Planting Backpack Kits and Video Tablets. As partners go ever deeper into unreached areas with ‘JESUS,’ they are witnessing barriers fall away. The Great Commission is steadily being fulfilled, person by person. And you are playing a key role. Thank you. Glory to God!”
You are a vital part of every one of these stories. What a joy it is to partner with you and our 1,800 partner ministries as we work together in the power of the Holy Spirit. Yet the Great Commission is not yet fulfilled. Mission researchers and leaders estimate that more than 3 billion people have never heard the gospel, and most have not even heard of Jesus. Many also believe that one of the most effective ways to reach them—in their heart language—is by showing the film “JESUS” to everyone, everywhere.
A number of those 1,800 ministry partners are fielding their own workers and film teams. It’s our privilege to train and supply them with translations of “JESUS” and other Jesus Film Project® media plus the equipment to present the gospel and follow up with new believers.
* Because there were many details in this report, I have edited and condensed.
** “Torches” are solar-powered flashlights that contain an audio Bible, created by ministry partner Renew Outreach.
