It’s so encouraging to hear how God is at work, calling His children to Himself. Yet mission experts estimate that more than 3 billion people have yet to see, hear and understand the gospel—to meet “this great man called Jesus.” It’s why I am so grateful for those 1,800 partner ministries that use “JESUS,” and for you. It’s your giving and prayer that help send and equip film teams in this worldwide partnership of church planting.
Most of these ministry partners are based in the developing world. They can’t afford to fully support their teams or purchase showing equipment.
This is how you can help by joining with them: The average daily cost to support one of these church-planting film teams is $42. For one week, they need $294 and for a month, $1,250. This amount of support covers their travel, room and board, the training of new teams and church planters, discipleship literature and equipment to show “JESUS” and other Jesus Film® content (such as discipleship films).
Some of these teams are working in very resistant areas. These teams often encourage people to watch “JESUS” digitally—safely in their homes, privately on video tablets or their phones. Whether a team is showing “JESUS” in open showings or working behind the scenes digitally, lives are being transformed. Churches are being established. They are growing, thriving and reproducing.
Seeing how God is working through your partnership and His word, I’d like to invite you to again help send and support the film teams. Perhaps you could help sponsor three days of a church-planting film team’s ministry by sending a gift of $125. During those days, they could be discipling new believers and at night showing “JESUS” in a village or home. You can also sponsor one week of a team’s work with a gift of $294. Your gift today of $625 will support one half of a month of a team’s ministry. Should you have the resources, you can cover an entire month by giving $1,250. A gift of $3,750 puts and keeps a team in the field reaching people and following them up for three months. Or you may feel led to sponsor the work of a film team for a complete year with a gift of $15,000. In that year, tens of thousands of people see and hear the gospel for the first time in their lives!
As God may lead, perhaps you might consider equipping a film team with a portable showing set. A 50-viewer set is quite versatile, in much demand and very practical. You can furnish a waiting team with one of these effective sets for a gift of $1,097. You can also help by covering half the cost, $549.\
As always, give as you are able, led by the Holy Spirit. Thank you for partnering with 1,800 ministry partners who, with you, are working to fulfill the Great Commission. Thank you for your prayers and generosity. It is all for His glory.
I’m so grateful for you, for this opportunity to share a few updates of what of God is doing.
He is transforming millions of lives for eternity. Unreached people are seeing and hearing the gospel story in their heart language for the first time through “JESUS.”
I want to share with you a moving video message recorded by the director of Kaleo International,* Joshua Muse. This is a frontline church-planting group—one of 1,800 partner ministries that use “JESUS.” Although Joshua recorded his message for Jesus Film Project®, his words are really for you.
🏵“I am Josh Muse. I’m standing right now on top of a mountain in one of the least evangelized states in Mexico. I would like to take a moment to thank ‘JESUS’ film for your support, for enabling us to have the projectors and tablets to share the gospel in these remote communities. I want to tell you a story.
“Last year, we came for the first time to a community called La Cebolla in the state of Durango. It was about six miles from where the road ends, a community of the Tepehuanes people. We walked a significant way to get there. The people told us that they had never heard the gospel, because no Christians had ever come there to share before.
“We shared the gospel and showed the ‘JESUS’ film. As the film played, a young man was stung by a scorpion, a type of scorpion in these mountains that is really dangerous. If it stings you, it’s really painful and oftentimes can be deadly. When you get stung, you have only five to six hours to get the antidote.
“If you don’t, many people will die. He was already having shortness of breath. So, we laid hands on him and prayed. And as we prayed, all the pain left him. God completely healed him in front of the whole community!
“And after that, everyone was attentive in listening to the gospel. The people were extremely excited to hear the message. That miracle opened the door to a whole set of villages where we’re at now. We went from there to another community, hiking 10 and 12 miles to get there. Then from there to another village and another, where we preached and showed them the ‘JESUS’ film.
“It’s one thing to tell someone about Jesus, to preach. But it’s another thing when they can see [the gospel] before their eyes. They witness Jesus doing miracles. That opens the door perfectly for us to tell them that He still does miracles today. And He does. We’ve seen God open the eyes of the blind, heal the ears of the deaf. Because of the ‘JESUS’ film, we are seeing lives transformed!
“The gospel is now spreading like wildfire in these mountains. So, I want to say thank you again for all of your support. I pray that the Lord blesses the ‘JESUS’ ministry. We look forward to many years of working together. God bless.” Thank you, Josh, for this encouraging report.
🏵God is also working in closed nations of Central Asia. A “JESUS” volunteer trained by a ministry partner, a man I will call Erian*, shared the gospel with an elderly woman at a market. She was very open, quite interested and took down the online address so she could watch “JESUS” at home. Four months later, she contacted Erian: “Please come to my village!
I don’t know how to run a church!”
She explained that nine women, all teachers, had also watched the film online, understood the gospel, repented and accepted Jesus! Erian went to the village and taught the new church how to hold services, read the Bible and worship.
These new believers had a great hunger to learn more. So, Erian showed the women how to download the Bible onto their phones, how to worship with others through the internet and more. Six months later, Erian returned to the village. Their church had grown to more than 15 women. But he also learned that they were meeting secretly, fearing persecution.
During one of their meetings, while Erian was discipling them, the husband of the host actually came home unexpectedly. He was angry, saying that someone was “spoiling the wives.” When he learned that Erian was the one who had brought them this “new religion,” he beat Erian, leaving his face and eyes swollen.
But Erian chose not to report the attack to the police and instead suggested that everyone watch the “JESUS” film, including the angry husband. The next day, the husband came back in tears, asking Erian for forgiveness. He said he was deeply moved when he realized that Jesus was innocent and died for us, and that Erian was also innocent.
The husband repented and accepted Jesus! His sister-in-law also believed. A house church is now firmly established in the village, growing, sharing the love of Jesus and showing others the film in their heart language that brought them all to Christ.
🏵 And this last report came from a Cru® film team working in the African nation of Ghana: “We showed the ‘JESUS’ film and the ‘Walking With Jesus’ discipleship series in Gonja, helping people experience the gospel in their own heart language.
“Each evening, crowds gathered with eagerness and emotion as they watched the life of Jesus unfold. Many responded with sincere hearts to the message of salvation. During one of the ‘JESUS’ film outreaches, a man shared that he had given his life to Christ the previous night while watching the film.
“He expressed a strong desire to attend church, but didn’t know where to go. When our team followed up with him, we met a group of people nearby. As we shared the gospel with them, four men gave their lives to Christ on the spot. Two of these new believers later invited us to their neighborhood to show the film again, saying, ‘Those people also need to hear what we heard yesterday—about this great man called Jesus.’”
*Kaleo International is a church-planting ministry working in 14 nations around the world. I’ve edited Josh’s kind remarks for my letter.
