God is at work! Reports would not be possible without the gracious partnership of friends like you, and the work of dedicated, courageous teams who share the film “JESUS.” Yet, the task of taking the gospel to every people group is not complete. As you may have heard, more than 3 billion people are considered unreached for Christ. This is why I invite you to join with film teams and workers to take the gospel to these people who have never heard of Jesus, much less understood the gospel.
As God leads, perhaps you can support one week of a team’s work with a gift of $294. In that single day, they can travel to an unreached village and show “JESUS” to hundreds of people. Your gift can also enable a team to spend a day discipling new believers. They will teach them the Word, the work of the Holy Spirit, how to grow in their faith.
Teams in more difficult areas are especially in need of Video Tablet Sets. Highly portable, these versatile showing tools will enable as many as 25 people to watch the gospel story and hear the Word of God through a clear Bluetooth speaker. So here are ways you can join in the harvest.
And should you have the resources, please consider supporting three full months of a team’s work with a gift of $3,750. Or you can fund an entire year of a team’s work, including church planting, with a gift of $15,000.
Please give as He leads and according to the resources God has entrusted to you. A gift of any size will make a difference. God looks at our hearts, not the amount of what we give.
🕆 A few months ago, a Jesus Film Project® colleague and I were in Thailand for a three-day evangelistic outreach. It was held by a few ministry partners, mainly on college campuses. We provided support by doing “JESUS” film showings.
While at lunch with our translator, I asked about his family. He didn’t hesitate, saying: “Oh, my dad is an amazing man. Can I share with you my ‘JESUS’ film story?’”
He described how 25 years ago, his father (who I will refer to as Somchai) was in bad shape. He was a victim of advanced leprosy and treated like an outcast. His fingers had become short stubs on his hands. Hearing that Jesus could heal diseases, he came to an evangelistic crusade. The evangelist asked who would like to receive Jesus. Somchai raised his marred hands.
Then the evangelist asked again, “And who needs healing and believes Jesus can heal you?” Again, Somchai raised his hands. As the leader prayed for people, the spots and lesions on Somchai’s body literally disappeared! They vanished. Yet, his damaged and scarred fingers remained unchanged … because God had a plan.
Made new in Christ, his father began showing the “JESUS” film throughout Northwest Thailand, where he lived, particularly in the leper colonies. I can envision his father setting up the equipment and turning the projector on—with only the nubs of his fingers. After a showing, Somchai would raise his hands as evidence that he had leprosy. He told how Jesus healed him, saying “And Jesus can heal you, too.” Through his testimony and “JESUS,” leprosy victims have been miraculously healed, and thousands have come to Christ.
And nearly all those “JESUS” film showings were in partnership with the American Baptist hospital in the area. Together, Deepak and the hospital staff conducted many educational outreaches, workshops and seminars on how to combat leprosy.
Not only did thousands come to Christ, but leprosy has been completely eradicated from four districts in northern Thailand because of this partnership. Ten years ago, the national Thai government recognized Somchai for his historic work. Today, he is a sought-after public speaker and evangelist. He regularly shows the “JESUS” film using equipment and translations you have provided. And he holds up his finger-stubbed hands, declaring, “Man had no use for me, but God could still use me.”
This much-loved evangelist is only one of thousands of workers and partner “JESUS” film team members who are used of God all over the world. Your prayers and support are helping to sustain their work, providing equipment for them to show “JESUS.” Thank you for your faithful partnership.
🕆 There is more! Recently, we received an encouraging report from Elijah21, a partner in Europe. They reach out to refugees from the Middle East. After sharing a meal at a church in Germany (for Syrian, Afghan and Persian refugees), they showed them “JESUS.”
One of the refugee men suffered from intense knee pain. He had been shot in the leg, fracturing bone and leaving a large, visible hole. He could hardly move his knee and endured constant pain. An Elijah21 team member offered to pray for the man.
At first, he declined since he was a fervent and proud follower of his religion. He was actually a teacher of their religious law, highly skeptical of Christians. A team member asked, “Do you believe Jesus can heal you today?” He replied, “No, no, absolutely not.” “And what will you do if Jesus actually heals your knee and takes the pain away?” He replied, “I’m not interested.” But eventually, he agreed.
As they prayed, the pain began to subside! Suddenly, he was able to move his knee. No pain! He said, “I felt something like electricity flow into my knee.” Though he was totally committed to his religion, his heart softened. “I need to understand who this Jesus is. I want to come to your follow-up meeting.”
Though it took time and he had many questions, today he is a follower of Jesus. The director of Elijah21, who shared this report, said: “It was one of those moments where we realized that God is pouring out His presence and His gifts to the people in order to open their hearts and to move them, to make them understand who our Jesus really is.
🕆 This next report came from a pastor in Africa: “Several years ago, our team partnered with a local church to organize a ‘JESUS’ film outreach in a rural village [that was] widely feared and reputed to be under a strong influence of witchcraft, occult practices and spiritual bondage. Many people in surrounding areas avoided the village because of its dark spiritual reputation. During the outreach, the ‘JESUS’ film was projected publicly over several evenings. From the very first night, there was a deep sense of conviction and openness among the people. As the story of Christ’s life, death and resurrection was shown, many hearts were visibly touched. A significant number of villagers publicly responded to the gospel and gave their lives to Jesus Christ.”
The pastor also reported that one man, “a practitioner of witchcraft,” publicly renounced his ways and surrendered his life to the Lord. “His testimony sparked a wave of repentance and faith, leading dozens of others—including people formerly associated with occult to openly confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
“The impact of this outreach did not end with the film showing. Over time, the spiritual atmosphere of the village was transformed. Today, the village is largely identified with the Christian faith, and the local church remains active and strengthened as a result of that outreach. Families were restored, fear diminished and a new hunger for the Word of God emerged.”
🕆 I’d like to close my letter with one more encouraging report. This came from Biglife, a ministry partner working in Asia and across the globe. Bondona grew up worshiping and fearing the many gods of her culture. And like millions around her, she had never heard of Jesus. Then a Christian friend invited her to a showing of “JESUS” in her home. As Bondona watched and heard the Word of God, as she felt the love of the Lord she began to cry.
All that night she could not sleep and kept remembering all she had witnessed, the words she had heard. The next day, Bondona went back to her friend’s house and watched the film again. This time she repented of her sins and surrendered her life to Christ. Today, Bondona is a new person, actively showing “JESUS” to the people of her village.
Bondona is sharing the gospel through a video tablet, one that you provided. Because so many people are responding to the gospel, even in resistant areas, the director of Biglife is requesting hundreds more Video Tablet Sets. And they are only one of scores of partners in need of team support and video tablets. They will reach the people if friends like you will help support and supply the tools. Thank you for your prayerful consideration and your generous partnership. To Him goes all the glory.
