Reach an Unreached People Group with “JESUS”

#2570262

Right now, hundreds of unreached people await their own translation of “JESUS.” To accurately present the gospel story, every lip-sync version of “JESUS” requires time, hard work and resources. It begins with locating speakers to help translate scripts (working with expert linguists). Then voice actors must be found. The recordings are made—going scene by scene. The process can take days—often much longer—and is sometimes done in secret, out of sight from authorities and cultures that oppose Christianity. Weeks of skillful editing, revisions and adjusting follow. When approved as accurate and faithful to Scriptures, a new translation is released. Teams of workers, drawn from among those 2,400 ministry partners, eagerly go to work using a variety of showing tools, the internet, even broadcasting. The Holy Spirit then speaks to the hearts of people who have never heard. Those He has called are overwhelmed and believe. Lives are transformed for eternity.

The cost to produce a new lip-sync version from script translation to release is $45,000. It’s a team effort. Producing each new translation is arduous, involves research, extensive travel and sometimes peril. Today, would you feel led to help by joining with others to produce a new translation with a gift of $50, $75 or $100? Your gift, every gift, will make a difference in bringing the gospel to people like refugees in Uganda or from the Middle East. Working together, you can help an unreached people meet Jesus.

Another opportunity is to create an actual script. Many of the more difficult languages have never been studied or documented. The cost to create a script for these—the foundation of each translation—is $9,500. Once completed, the recording of local voice actors can begin.

Or you may wish to carry a language project over the finish line. There are several key language projects that have encountered unexpected costs—logistics, re-recording to increase language effectiveness, added travel costs and more. You can help finish one of these language projects with a gift of $5,000 (an average).

Since many of us lack the resources to fully meet these various opportunities, you can fund these projects by joining with others. This is why your gift, large or small, will help unreached people hear the Word of God, the words of Jesus and understand. You can help people who walk in darkness, see a great light … and hear Him speak.

Thank you for being a part of a global community, a partnership that is historic. You are hastening the day when everyone, everywhere can know Jesus as their Savior and Lord.

⬢ His name is Joseph Joseph’s father died fighting in a civil war. His mother sent him to his uncle’s family where he became a shepherd boy. His world was rural and isolated—open fields, silence, occasional animal cries, long days and an inner emptiness. Then word came that his mother was gravely ill. Joseph left his flock and walked a long distance to find her.

At last, he reached the village where she lay dying. That night, he saw the unexpected. Someone had suspended a large cloth, like a bedsheet with ropes. They had set up a strange box that beamed bright light on the cloth, illuminating images of people moving. There were metal cones that made sound. The images on the cloth spoke Arabic, a language he barely knew. But he was intrigued.

Someone explained that it was a film about a man named, Jesus. “Who is Jesus?” he wondered. As he watched and listened, grasping the Arabic words he knew, Joseph realized that Jesus was telling people to love their enemies. It was revolutionary. This man’s compassion, the power of His message pierced Joseph’s heart in a way he could not explain.

“I felt something stir in me, in my blood, in all my body. I realized there is a God and this Man was God. Even though I followed the common religion (the dominant religion of the nation), I felt different. When the people asked who wanted to receive Jesus, I gave my life to Christ. I joined the church. Everything changed.”

But a few days later, even more changed. The sky began to roar as planes dropped bombs on the village. The people fled, including Joseph. Many crossed into a refugee camp of 30,000 people, where missionaries were showing the “JESUS” film every night. He found other believers there who were gathered to worship and study the Bible. Three churches grew. Soon, there were four.

Joseph, the shepherd boy, also grew in his faith and his purpose in life. He became a leader of the churches, a preacher, a man of great passion and truth. And his mother was there, alive, well and among the believers. Then the people who had sent “JESUS” wanted to translate the film into his heart language and so did Joseph.

They asked him to be the voice of Jesus. He later described through tears what it was like to record the Word of the Lord. He said that all the emotions of that first night as a boy—the awe, the conviction, Jesus’ words, His presence—it all came rushing back.

Joseph then began to use “JESUS” in his own ministry. “When I show it, I am crying inside, because the way I see the ‘JESUS’ film, it is a very big thing. Even if a person can’t read, they can listen. I heard and understood a few words in Arabic, but now they will hear in the language of their hearts.”

There are more than 100,000 speakers of Joseph’s language and fewer than 3% know Christ. Teams are working among them using this translation. And worldwide, there are now 2,310 translations of “JESUS” available to shine light of the gospel into spiritual darkness. More than 3 billion people are yet to be reached, to hear and understand. Someday, they will be helped to have that chance because of your gracious partnership. Thank you.

⬢ Here is another testimony, the fruit of your prayers and gifts. A man, Affan, was not a shepherd but a refugee from the Middle East. He made his way to Greece and didn’t speak one word of the language. Nor did he have any food or a place to live.

One day he saw fellow refugees entering a building. It was the Refugee Care Center, operated by Agape Hellas (“Love Greece,” as Cru® is known in the country). Walking in the door he was welcomed by volunteers. They were kind, offered him a hot meal and invited him to rest. They also offered him language classes so he could learn Greek, which he accepted.

Then one day, while sitting in the main hall, he found himself watching a scene from “JESUS” that the staff had playing. In a language he understood, he heard the Lord’s same words of love and forgiveness. Like Joseph, he was struck in a way he could not understand.

Affan eagerly asked the volunteers many questions. They patiently answered, explaining who Jesus is and His message of hope and truth. Affan believed and felt a deep peace. He embraced his new faith in Jesus and joined a small group at the refugee center. He sensed hope replacing long-held bitterness and anger.

Affan often says of the center: “They didn’t just give me food—they gave me a reason to live again.” The Word of God does not return void! Now, he dreams of returning to his home country in the Middle East, not just as a survivor but as a messenger of the hope he is living. Because of you, staff will be able to equip new believers like Affan and Joseph and many others with translations of “JESUS” so they can shine His light into the darkness, so unreached people can at last hear and understand.

⬢ Here’s more good news. As you may know, “JESUS” is recognized by Guinness World Records as the most translated film in history, 2,310 languages, a number that is increasing every month. A recent in-depth study revealed that more than 2,400 ministry partners are now using these translations to share the gospel and plant churches. It’s why I want you to know that you play an important role in this great partnership, an influence that is impacting hundreds of millions with the gospel. Through many partnerships you are empowering the work of hundreds of ministries that use “JESUS” … around the clock … around the world. Again, thank you.
