The nation of nearly 90% "Christian" sank to barbarities in 1994, and the genocide of the Tutsi minority and Hutu moderates by the Hutu extremists caused the death of 800,000 people in 100 days. The country has made great progress since these tragic events, displaying the people's remarkable resilience and willingness to forgive and move forward despite great pain and loss. The Church has played a key role in this healing process, and missionary presence continues to increase. The need is still great in Rwanda for counseling and reconciling ministries, discipleship and church work, education, health, and income generation.
