Albania was constitutionally declared an atheistic state in 1967 under a harsh dictator. Freedom of religion came with the fall of the communist regime in the early 1990s.
The majority of Albanians consider themselves Muslim. The remainder consider themselves Catholic or Orthodox. However, religious affiliation is primarily nominal. Only 1% of Albanians are evangelical/protestant.
Albania is internationally recognized for its religious harmony & tolerance. The freedom of religion allows for missions to continue among all demographics. The great spiritual harvest which began with the fall of communism continues to this day.
