Dear friend in Christ,
"...as I live, all the earth will be filled with the glory of the LORD."
-- Numbers 14:21b
What a joy to pass on these wonderful reports of JESUS to you!
Pastor Peter had begun his work several years earlier as a JESUS film team member. He learned to use a 16 mm projector, to repair it, set up his portable screen, man the speakers and more--so people might be delivered from darkness.
Soon he felt called to do more. The Spirit led him to receive additional training, particularly in planting networks of growing churches, and then to do the impossible.
Pastor Peter went to a very dangerous area of an Asian country. The local population consisted of more than 700,000 people, with no Christian witness, no churches--not a single known believer.
Undeterred, he obtained showing equipment that you and others provided, and with other workers began presenting JESUS. The work was slow in the beginning but he persisted. In 18 years he planted 72 churches consisting of two to three thousand believers each. Now in this area, God has used him along with others to see 100,000 baptized. Nearly one out of seven people are now baptized believers!
A very ill woman attended one of the showings. She was slowly dying, suffering from a large tumor that was filling her abdomen. No longer able to walk and completely bedridden, her family carried her to see and experience JESUS.
The team mounted the reels and started the projector. Along with many others in the crowd, she found herself deeply touched by all she saw and heard. In her heart, something told her that this was true...it was all real! When Jesus healed people, she thought, "Why can't He do it for me?"
He did! She was healed. The tumor shrunk and disappeared! Through her testimony, and more showings of JESUS, 3,000 more people came to Christ! Three of her sons have since become pastors!
Then, on to the continent of Africa, where staff leadership witnessed an amazing event. In a country that is best not to be named, there is a strange cult. Members wear white robes, claim they are Christians, but ignore the Bible, adhering to their own cultural teachings and doctrines. They also view Jesus as only a prophet.
Staff described what happened as "divine providence." One of the cult's "bishops" actually asked a JESUS film team TO COME TO THEM, set up their equipment, and show JESUS. The request was unusual because he made his request late into the night and wanted them to come immediately--the team members wisely seized the opportunity. About 5,000 people attended!
When the invitation was given, all 5,000 indicated decisions for Christ! One of the cult's leaders was so moved by discovering the truth that he urged other leaders to also come and watch JESUS. The next month, 55 more bishops attended, watched and heard the Word!
Lastly, in a resistant region of another African nation a woman is very active showing JESUS. She regularly presents "The Story of Jesus for Children" in the schools, about three times each week, using a portable screen and a video projector.
Note: "The Story of Jesus for Children" is an adaptation of the original JESUS film, but with new material that explains the gospel more simply for younger viewers.
She has presented JESUS to 9,721 pupils, who are always responsive. She describes how they cry when Jesus is crucified, clap when He is raised to life. They become so enraptured that some will go to the screen and touch the images, trying to hug Jesus. And many of these little ones are from resistant backgrounds.
This is how to change hearts, how His glory will fill the earth. His Word is being proclaimed. People hear and respond, hastening the day of His appearing. Yet, it's not the film alone that does the work, nor the equipment, not even the teams and volunteers. God working by His Spirit and His Word does His work. Like a mathematical equation He brings the teams, equipment and you together, so lives might be transformed:
Teams + Equipment + JESUS + You = Transformed Lives!
There are a variety of tools for that second element of the formula: "equipment." Listed below are some of the tools you may wish to supply, so people might see and hear JESUS.
Table Projectors are small, easily transported and suitable for small showings of up to 50 people. JESUS plays from a memory card, and the complete system includes a small, tabletop projector and a tiny but powerful speaker. You can place a Table Projector into the hands of a team or volunteers working in a restricted country through a gift of $900.
Video Tablets are great for areas where security is a major concern, suitable for showings to a single person, or a few. Similar to the widely used iPad, their internal memory can be loaded with the JESUS film, "Magdalena: Released From Shame," and follow-up videos--all in several languages. You can provide a versatile Video Tablet for a gift of $323 (including a cable to link to a television or video projector).
You might want to provide a Digital Video Projector (DVP). These are bright, clear and ideal to project JESUS onto a screen for larger crowds. DVPs replace 16 mm projectors. Their technology and reliability have come of age. Cost per unit is $2,000.
Lastly, may I suggest you consider an Acclaimer Package? This is a wonderful tool kit for large groups, but where portability is essential to reach remote people. Everything fits into a backpack: solar-power array, battery, Digital Projector, screen and speakers. Teams in Cambodia are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Acclaimer Packages (provided by friends like you) for their ministries in areas of dense jungles. You can provide a team working in other nations with an Acclaimer Package backpack for a generous gift of $6,255.
Of course, not everyone has the means these days to purchase some of this much-needed equipment. So perhaps, while seeking His will, you can consider a smaller gift of $100, $250 or $500. The information sheet also tells how your small group can band together to help.
Now, I always like to give you one more story in my letters. This is not a story, but actually an email. It came from a very faithful African evangelist who attended the recent Lausanne Congress on World Evangelism. He sent this from his BlackBerry phone in Botswana!
"Dear sir: We have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Campus Crusade for Christ for almost 25 years. During that time we have partnered...{we have planted} many churches amongst the tribes in the Okavango [Valley] who were without a Bible believing church....
"I would like to send our heartfelt thanks...to ask you for your consideration in helping us secure a new JESUS film kit. Our old 16 mm projector and films have been used hundreds of times over the past 18 years and have stopped working....
"We have trained leaders and pastors who will win others if we can put these tools in their hands. Thank you for this opportunity...."
That's how you can help, as you are able, and as He leads. For this worker, staff will suggest an Acclaimer Package, as funds are available.
Thank you for your partnership, and for helping to give teams and volunteers the equipment they need so others can experience the power of JESUS. May God bless you, for shining His light in the darkness, for hastening the day when His glory will fill the whole earth!
For Christ and His Kingdom,
Jim Green, Executive Director
The JESUS Film Project
