Dear Friend in Christ,
How do you make a "JESUS" film worker weep? By the love you have sent!
May your own heart be greatly moved by what I'm about to share.
Tim Eaker is the founder of a ministry partner, Healing Rain World Outreach. They are showing "JESUS" in the incredibly rugged foothills of the Himalayan mountains to unreached, unengaged people. You may remember me writing about him.
Tim's team hiked nearly six hours, trekking narrow foot trails, as high as 21,000 feet. They were carrying our projector backpack system that contains everything a single "JESUS" film worker needs.
Exhausted, and at their first "base camp," Tim realized they had left the DVD of "JESUS" down the mountain, in their car, 5 brutal hours away (11 hours round trip). But God miraculously had gone before them. A man in the village remembered a DVD he had been given by a mysterious man. A few weeks earlier, he handed the villager a DVD, saying, "I'm supposed to give this to you. You are going to need it." It was of "JESUS," in the exact language they needed!
Tim and his team wept for joy... they had experienced a miracle. About 350 people watched "JESUS" in their mother tongue and 325 indicated decisions for Christ! Now let me tell you more about those backpacks, and what made the film team cry....
Those workers knew of the traditional film equipment sets: 16 mm projectors, p.a. systems, generators, metal screen frames, and large speakers. Carrying bulky and weighty cases over the treacherous Himalayan trails would be nearly impossible. So when Tim presented them with their first backpack, which only needed a DVD, they were ecstatic. With tears, the workers told Tim they had been praying for a tool like this for eight years.
When Tim said that Christians in America (people like you!) had given so they could reach their people, they could not believe it... became overwhelmed... and wept. What a moment.
And there's more. A few weeks ago, Tim spoke before a small church in the U.S. He brought with him one of those backpacks, the DVD player, portable screen, and a DVD of "JESUS" as a demo. People in the U.S. are of course familiar with DVDs, but they were fascinated as he set up the equipment, pulling each piece from the backpack: foldable solar panel, compact projector, a small but powerful speaker system, and a collapsible screen... and then pressed play.
They weren't amazed over a common DVD, but by this very powerful, versatile way for national workers to play DVDs of "JESUS" even in the most remote places.
Now, at the end of the service, a man approached him: "My sister and husband are medical missionaries in Sierra Leone, Africa. They have longed for a tool like this for years, so they could show 'JESUS' to the people there."
Tim: "In that moment the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said that the next backpack was to go to them. But I had the 'next backpack,' and it was already committed for Asia. I was leaving in a few days! I was so conflicted. Then the pastor came by....
"'Tim, these people are so excited over the backpacks. I just learned several families have written enough checks for you to purchase one more.' I was so amazed. Once again God had gone before us." When we spoke with Tim, he had just arranged for the shipment to Sierra Leone.
Do you feel as I do, so fortunate and blessed to have a part? May His name be praised for all eternity. This brings me to why I am writing. I want to suggest four ways you can have a part in this historic expansion of God's kingdom:
Of course, the first option is not for all partners of "JESUS" because of the cost. But you can still have a part by providing a portion. You might consider inviting your church or Sunday school class--or other small group--to join you, helping you do more than you could alone. For helpful information about group giving, and an intriguing video, please see www.jesusfilm.org/thewatchmen.
The second way you can help reach people in the harvest is by providing a "Give Them Life" Mini-Pack. These utilize a very small, handheld projector. They are perfect for working in dangerous, restricted places. The third way is through DVDs, for distribution by film teams working in unreached areas, both urban and rural. This strategy is very effective, in that home DVD players are inexpensive and common, even in poorer areas of many nations where electricity is available.
Further, supplying teams and partners with DVDs is a critical need. They are requesting not only DVDs of the classic "JESUS" film, but also other evangelistic and follow-up tools such as "The Story of Jesus for Children" and "Magdalena: Released From Shame" (both are adaptations of "JESUS").
For DVDs and the two different types of equipment sets, $2,313,919 is needed. As you consider one of these options, please keep in mind that The JESUS Film Project is a partnering ministry. So many of these tools and DVDs will be used by churches, mission organizations, and volunteers, thus expanding the reach of whatever gift you can send today.
Here are some gift amounts you might consider: $100 would send 25 DVDs, to be distributed and passed among neighbors and families. That single gift could help reach as many as 400 people with the gospel, in their heart language. A gift of $200 could provide for 50 DVDs, enabling up to 800 people to be reached.
If you would rather help with a "Give Them Life" Backpack, your gift of $525 would cover a portion. A gift of $2,625 will cover half the cost. A gift of $5,250 will provide all that is necessary to send one backpack set to a waiting and eager team... of which there are many. Or, for a smaller gift of $1,075, you could fund one Mini-Pack set for indoor outreaches, letting up to 50 people at a time see and hear the gospel for the first time--and in their heart language. These are perfect for showings in restricted nations, to present Christ to small groups of men, women and children.
Thanks for considering one of these options. You see, supplying these tools is how you can make the teams weep with joy, enabling them to reach their nations for Christ. I appreciate you and give thanks for your partnership. May God bless you greatly for however you can help.
For Christ and His Kingdom,
