Genti and Djana Shani

As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord!

Our Testimonies

Djana's One

I come from Kuçova, a southern city in Albania. I was raised in a Christian Orthodox family that believes that Jesus is the Lord but not as the Lord of their lives. I received Christ when I was in the second year of High School in 1993.This is my story:

One afternoon, a friend of mine invited me and some other non-christian friends to a church service.

We went there to check out their message. I liked that meeting because it was something different. I liked the songs & the music and step-by-step I begun to be part of that small church of Kuçova. I don’t remember the right moment when I received Christ, but I knew this was the right place for me.

Then I had to confront my family but I was very decided to follow that way. In that year (1993), my father passed away and this caused a great grief to all of us. I’m grateful to God I was a Christian at that time because He gave me strength, courage, and He took away the grief from my heart. I would understand that in those days my Lord was caring for me. My pastor told me that my father had done the prayer of salvation.

When I was in the last year of the high school I had grown up in my faith and I was greatly involved in my church services. I finished the high school with the desire to go to Tirana University. I had to face a big and unknown world. I had prayed a lot that God would provide a church where I could meet with new brothers and sisters. And God in a wonderful way provided more than what I asked for. In the very first days, I met people working with CRU, so I had the possibility to be aware of the existence of a student movement that became a real blessing in my life in the future.

I can remember those days having a great joy in my heart because I’ve seen so many changed hearts and I have to say thank you to the Lord that has used me to share the Gospel and to help girls building up their faith. For 2 years I lead Bible studies of many students and I have had the privilege to have the fellowship and to see the fruits of their faith.

This is my nineteenth year working with CRU, two years with Jesus Film and two years in the finance office. Then, together with Genti, we have been coordinating the FaimilyLife ministry for more than 10 years. From 2014, I am also part of the teachers' ministry.

 Genti's One

I come from the capital city of Albania, Tirana, which is located in the heart of my country. I was raised in a Muslim family that really believed but never practiced their faith. As a child and a teenager, I tried to enjoy it and there was nothing outstanding throughout it.

After I finished high school, I had the opportunity to attend Tirana University. I was a sophomore when I first heard about Jesus Christ. I did not care too much, thinking that everything was fine with my independent life and me. When I first confronted people sharing Jesus, my tendency was to argue, trying to tell them not to get involved in the others’ private lives and decisions.

One day I was invited by some close friends to attend a Campus Crusade for Christ conference. It was November ‘93 and I will never forget that weekend. During those three days I heard and understood the gospel very clearly. Then I decided to read the New Testament.

Soon I came to realize that first I was a sinner in need of a Savior, and Jesus Christ alone was the One who could give eternal life. So it was Christmas Eve ‘93 when I decided to invite Jesus to come into my life as my Savior and Lord.

After that God provided several dear brothers who helped me to grow in my faith, and as a student I got involved with the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ.

The time came when I realized that school was coming to an end, and I was scared because I had to find my way in life. I was challenged to work with CRU as an employee, having the responsibility to translate several materials necessary for our ministry. It was hard to decide because I thought going abroad was the only means of provision for my life. But in the end, I started with CRU.  I worked two years as an employee and one year as an associate staff.

The next year (1998) God called me to be committed to a full time ministry and I accepted - considering it a privilege. Now as you can guess I am serving on staff with CRU being part of different ministries.

1998-2003 Operation Team being in charge of developing all our Bible Study materials for the campus ministry and more.

2003-2015 FamilyLife Ministry. In 2012 we started Marriage Week Albania with some other couples who has become a great resource to the Body of Christ.

2015- now I lead the teachers' ministry known as International School Project.

God is using this time in our lives and He is using both of us in many other people's lives.

 Our Financial Need

It is the policy of CRU that each staff member find their own Ministry Partners for their Mission Team.

We have a unique situation in Albania today. You see, there are so few believers right now and the ones who do believe have barely enough to live on day to day. Because of this, we need to find Ministry Partners for our ministry with Cru. Each Ministry Partner will be part of our Mission Team. We will be sending you a prayer letter every 6 weeks to share how the Lord is using you to help reach Albania for Christ.

In order to continue in the ministry, we need an additional financial support. If God is leading to help our ministry, contact us in the following e-mail addresses and phone number to let you specifically how much to invest.
