Help for Sudan

As you have undoubtedly seen in the news, thousands of people in Sudan are dying. The United Nations has described this situation as the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with "catastrophic levels" of suffering.
The tragedy started 18 months ago when Black Sudanese rebels in Darfur revolted and the Government of Sudan armed Arab militias, known as the Janjaweed, to crush the rebellion. Many have been killed, raped and terrorized by the Janjaweed, who continue even now to attack more villages. 1.2 million people have fled for their lives to formal and informal refugee camps in the Darfur region and across the border in Chad.
We want to break the cycle of malnourishment, disease and death by providing nutritious food to these refugees and thereby demonstrate God's love and compassion.
Our staff in Sudan have been ministering to the spiritual needs of the displaced and suffering, but now need our help to respond to the refugees' physical needs in their hour of despair.
As we prayed earnestly to determine how best to help, it became evident that as bad as the situation is inside the camps, there are still thousands of people who are left outside and not being helped by any other agencies. Our efforts therefore will target these families who are without any assistance and also those who voluntarily decide to go home to their villages.
Your gift today would demonstrate God's love in a practical way, meeting both their physical and spiritual needs. By providing food on the journey home (which could take one to three weeks on foot), as well as when they begin to resettle into their devastated villages, you can offer hope and compassion in Jesus' name.
The logistics of purchasing and delivering food and aid in this area of the world is complex and challenging. But all things considered, it only takes $71 to feed a family of seven for a week with highly nutritious food packages containing sorghum flour, rice, chic peas and lentils. That is only $1.45 per day, per person. Will you please help returning families to sustain and rebuild their lives? $142 would help rescue two or more families, and a gift of $1,000 or more would literally save hundreds from starvation. Or, $25, $50 or $75 would help a struggling family on the journey home.
