Suppose one of you had a hundred sheep and lost one. Wouldn't you leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the lost one until you found it? When found, you can be sure you would put it across your shoulders, rejoicing, and when you got home call in your friends and neighbors, saying, 'Celebrate with me! I've found my lost sheep!' Count on it-there's more joy in heaven over one sinner's rescued life than over ninety-nine good people in no need of rescue. Luke 15:4-7
The country of Ethiopia has over 30 unreached people groups. In March of 2008, StoryRunners launched an effort there along with one of our partner organizations-e3 Partners. The team members were Ethiopian missionaries-Christians from a Muslim background. They now wanted to share the gospel with their own people.
For several months these missionaries were trained how to do Bible storying. Afterwards the missionaries went to nearby villages to practice what they learned. At great personal risk, they started small storying groups that gathered weekly. In these groups they would tell a story from the Bible, discuss the story and then those in the group would learn to re-tell the story. In just six months, among these staunchly Muslim people, over 30 became followers of Jesus Christ, and two house churches were started!
And there is more to the story . . . as these 30 new believers began telling the stories, 50 more Muslims came to faith in Christ and six more house groups began! We recently heard that 250 people are now regularly attending storying groups. Whats so incredible about this is that it shows that rapid reproduction can happen with a simple, culturally relevant method.
This is our dream-to see every lost sheep found! And we believe it will only happen by Gods grace and a major transition in missions strategy, which we believe clearly is Bible storying.
