As the civil war in Ukraine continues with repeated cease-fire violations by the Russian backed separatists, the people are fleeing west to safety. Believers and Christian churches are reaching out with the little they have to refugees from Lugansk, Donetsk, Gorlovka, Debaltsevo and other regions.

Direct reports from our workers on the ground tell us that some churches are only able to offer refugees bread and water. Now, ministry workers are coming alongside the churches to help—giving them food, blankets, financial support, and even offering recreational activities. Refugees are also offered DVDs of “JESUS” so they can hear the gospel in their heart language, and learn that Jesus loves them and cares for them.

The hearts of the refugees are open as the workers and believers reach out in Christ’s love. They respond to the acts of compassion and are gaining hope. Workers in the city of Groskoe shared, “Every day local people come to this church to get food, diapers, medicines and clothes. The pastor told us that in the last few weeks about 10 people had prayed to receive Christ through their ministry.”

The West overall has been slow to respond to the people of Ukraine, but not the Christians in-country. The JESUS Film Project has rushed some initial emergency funds to the country to cover travel and other expenses to minister to refugees and help supply DVDs. But they need more help—much more!
