After the devastating tsunami on Dec. 22, 2005 we discovered a group of nomadic sea gypsies in the Andaman sea called the Mokens who needed assistance in replacing their boats and lives. The children who were resilient and teachable were found to be the hope for the future of the Moken.
The Ranong Children’s Home opened in 2008 with 9 children and grew each year to have 30+ children for several years. This year (2023) there are 10 children in the orphanage in the city of Ranong. Four are attending universities. The children are all teenagers, and our plan is to help them all graduate from high school in the next 6 years.
The dorm parents, Somsak and Uan have been caring for these children for 15 years, since the beginning. The schools on the islands only go to the 6th grade, so students who want to further their education are now able by living in the home. The vision is for them to not only receive an education at the public government school, but to live in a Christian home with dorm parents who love them, eat nutritious meals, and most importantly to grow spiritually in knowing God’s love for them.
