As students who experienced life-change during our college years, we believe the college environment offers a unique opportunity for God to redirect and capture the hearts of students and faculty alike. We are honored to have served with Cru now for over 25 years. Our roles on staff have varied over the years, yet our desire to help fulfill the Great Commission has grown through each season of leadership. Clyde now serves as Local Missions Director for Cru teams in South Carolina. Georgia, Alabama, & Mississippi, where over one million college students and faculty are exposed to the gospel in a variety of ways each year. Of those million, about over half are ethnic minority students, Greek students, Athletes, International students, or Military-focused. Clyde loves coaching staff and local student leaders in building gospel movements that are contextualized culturally so that students can receive the gospel in a relevant way. We pray for young people to meet Jesus and be raised up as spiritual leaders wherever God guides them. Would you consider joining us on their behalf?
Clyde: As a student at Appalachian State, I remember thinking that drinking, parties, and drugs were the things that would make me happy. The more I indulged in them, though, the more I found myself feeling empty inside. During my sophomore year, God brought me to a point of realization that there had to be a better life than the one I was living. Then, he brought a fellow student into my life named Jeff, who helped me see that true Christianity was more than just the rules of religion that I had rejected. It was about having a personal relationship with God. Jeff helped me to grow in my relationship with God and taught me how to tell others about Christ. Through this life-changing experience, God called me to give the best of my time and energy to reach the nations for Christ as a full-time missionary.
Jenn: When I stepped onto Appalachian's campus as a student, I remember thinking, I'm not in Iron Station anymore! I was introduced to diversity in a new way—diversity in thought, belief systems, life goals, and lifestyles. As I met students and faculty, I discovered that the real truth that most people go to college to find was missing from the environment I was surrounded by on campus. The search for acceptance, significance, and hope was often found in temporary pleasures or belief systems based on man's own abilities. My heart grew tender toward those around me who were confused and desperate. Through my involvement with Cru, I was trained in how to offer hope by introducing my fellow students to a personal relationship with Christ. By graduation, I knew that I wanted to do this full-time all over the world.
It is our distinct privilege to be able to share the good news of Jesus Christ with students who are searching for something just like we were. In our ministry to students and faculty in South Carolina and Georgia, we focus on sharing the gospel and raising up leaders who will multiply themselves. One of the highlights of our ministry is our global partnerships, which made such an impact in our own early years of ministry. We long to see students and faculty of every demographic reached with the gospel and making an impact in their homes, communities, and around the world!
We would count it an honor to have you partner with us in taking the gospel of Christ to students in South Carolina, Georgia, and around the world. Thank you for investing in eternity by joining us through your prayers and financial gifts. We could not do this without you and our entire ministry partner team! Thank you for giving to God!
